    JAE 21 FE options

    I got a partially prebuilt 21.

I dont race, just run for fun.

would I be best served just buying the everything hardware kit our piecing it together. Not sure what other motor mount options are out there.

Then for power. what would be a fitting leopard? 3660 and around 3200kv?

I want speed on this one.

what do you consider speed? with the ul1 set-up you can easy break 50mph. the problem with the leopard is battery and esc. these things are tight on space. i ran one with a neu 1415 and it was a battery killer! with the proper prop work you can get the ul-1 motor to push it close to 55...

Someone on here recently built a JAE 21 with the UL1 motor & got 57mph then changed to a Leopard 3674 2200kv & got 60mph but with more exceleration but had to change the esc to i think 200a swordfish. The 3660 3200kv is a pretty high amp motor & is still a hotish 3s motor, 4s is way to high at nearly 48000rpm unloaded.

OK sounds like 4S is the way to go.

I will look a bit more into the TP power motor and the respective Leopard.

I come to a point where I gotta decide which boat to fund and which one waits. I got a 21 FE that needs hardware kit, motor, esc & battery or a Osprey that needs all electronics/batteries.

Just digging thru my goody box I came across a Hobbywing 150A Opto that has water cooling on it. Looks just like the T180 almost.

            I just checked it fits!

Im going to roll with 4S and just toss a Leopard or TP Power in it.

Looks like this boat wins because it will be cheaper to get finished! lol

Just picked up the TP Power 3074 2400kv from Kershaw. I was hoping Steve had it, but no luck.

Going to follow above prop advice also.

Now what size battery and C rating?

            Thanks guys!

One of the guys around here just built one with this motor

                    http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...FInrunner.html

4S 5000mah setup not sure of the C but I know it's not over 35.
All I can say is it looks like it's going to be fast once it's tuned up, servo mount broke loose on it's first run so don't really know it's potential yet.
Temps were all fine when it was brought in.
It is a 4 pole motor, first time I've seen one run (briefly) so no opinion on them yet, other people seem to like this line of motors though.
It is a tight fit in there!
Going UL-1 in mine I think.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

If you think the JAE 21 is a tight fit inside over on International Waters Gill Sonsino from Brazil has just built one with Leopard 4282 - 2000kv ( car motor fin can ) with 5000mah 6s & T180a esc. Now thats tight.

i know, i used a t180 with the 1415, i had change the fittings and remove the waterproofing box on the bottom. stuff fits, its just tight.

Gill used the stock T180 & fitted it up on its side so the esc sat above the tub about 5/8", the esc was also fitted behind the motor in the rear compartment so as to get the c o g right at 60/40% because of the heavier 5000mah 6s lipo. He made a raised cowl on the rear hatch cover so as to cover the esc & motor sticking above the tub.

I have one of these still waiting its turn on the building board. I'm considering the UL-1 but thinking that maybe I would like to try a Leo 3650 same size as the UL-1 but maybe 2090 KV or 2290 Kv. Has anyone made any comparisons between the Leo and the UL-1? As far as props go I would have to order one that would do the job. I have very little experience with boat props except for polishing them. I have a HK Seaking 90 amp ESc, if that will be ok.

I just ran a smaller rigger today with the 3650 Leo. Its a blizzard. Video in video section.

The Blizzard is quite a bit smaller.
