New Guy new boat looking for set up suggestions

back of boat after paint.jpg Hello, I bought this boat it is a 41 " boat have a castle 1717 1580 kv motor. 200 amp speed control . Was talking to local racers who say they don't race this boat with 6s. So opinions on running on 4s 2p and 5s 2p if I layed that out right . I am planning to play and maybe try to race later . So any suggestions will help me . I am reading and trying to absorb all I can so bear with me. I also got a cooling can for the motor and the esc is water cooled as well. I have no real idea about props and not much idea what all the numbers mean yet.. Motor will accept a max of 24 volts . So to race I need to run on 15 volts . prop ideas for this? probably need to run series for runtime so the weight will increase.
To Play I would like to run on 19 volts. I have 4 new 5000 mah 45-90 c nano-tech and two new 5000 mah 40 c batts. I can arrange these for optimum. I may also buy some 4s batts as well. I know this seems crazy maybe but I bought the 3s batts before I knew about the restrictions. Maybe you can help me in some fashion to get me set straight. Thanks.

If you are thinking racing namba, your 41" is too long for p mono (assuming it is that hull type), so 6s or Q mono would be your class. So your motor is a 4s motor, kinda high kv for 41" boat.

More specs would be helpful too; what Boat, esc you have or any other gear. Pics of your set up will always solicit more comments also.

    Welcome to the board!

From my end it looks like I did put a link in @ the very beginning. The 40 c batteries are 2 cell. I will add more later.

Hmmm....Jesse is right.....need more info and that is a big hull......speed/run time aspirations? and I would run it with 6-8s, the motor and ESC may not be up to the task.

boat motor.jpgrear boat setup.jpgback of boat after paint.jpgWell I guess the Esc won't matter because the smoke came out of it anyway. I tried to get the guy to give me paperwork on it but he said he had none. I bought this boat off another forum and from a very old man who says he knows what he is doing. I am not here to name names or bash anyone but it seems he has taken advantage of me not being well informed.
That said I will be purchasing a new speed controller able to run @ 22.5 volts or six cells. The motor is capable of max 25 volts. So any help would be appreciated. He also wouldn't tell me what prop he put on it only that he sells them if I need another. esc.jpg This was a Turnigy 200 amp. I tried to find info on it but didn't find anything. notice the burn mark where solder melted against the water jacket. not sure what happened but I didn't run the motor up just turned it on for a second or two. I hooked it up two a six cell but didn't give it much throttle just wanted to test things. Stupid , maybe but I had to try to use it .

At 1850 kv, it isn't a good 6s motor. 5s max. The older 1717's from Castle were 1580 kv and 1500 kv, and were better suited to 6s.

                  http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...arehouse_.html
and id be pretty sure that is some brand of a suppo 200 which is way over rated for any castle motor over a cc1515 that is also looks to be a tfl 42 or 48 prop

The motor says 1717/1Y 1580Kv. What size of speed controller should I get for this? Motor is rated for 6s. Please be specific in telling me what I DO need to have please. If I should only run 5s then I will..

Looks like a a foreign prop to me. It seems to be they run larger diameters with less pitch. Over here we run smaller diameters with more pitch- exact opposite.

I would guess its a Vanquish or an Osprey.

ESC is a goner, blown mosfet.

Looks for Diesel. Hes had the Vanquish and the Osprey. His Osprey has the 1717 in it. Link:

The hull is a Vanquish hobby King. I didn't know what it was thanks.
The speed ? I can only assume it to be in the range of 50 mph. Did I miss anything else ? The esc is smoked so I ordered a new 180 amp hobywing.

You will not get 50 mph with your previous posted setup and that new ESC will also go up in smoke....prop..run time...drivetrain etc. you may have bought a pig in a poke.
