Does an 8MM motor shaft provide more torque than a 5MM shaft? Specifically, in a NEU motor. If not, what is the advantage of an 8MM over a 5MM shaft?

An 8mm shaft will have less flex under load than a 5mm over it's length. On some motors, the motor shaft is 8mm, and it's turned down to 5mm on the output. This is kind of the best of both worlds, in my opinion.
If I were building an all-out P-power class boat or above, 8mm would be the way I'd go...Darin E. Jordan - Renton, WA

No problem. Just make sure that you can get the correct sized coupler for your application, and have plenty of clearance for it. They are pretty large. There isn't anything wrong with a 5mm shaft motor, if it's something like a 1515 sized Neu... If you go to 1521 or larger, I'd opt for the 8mm shaft.Darin E. Jordan - Renton, WA

Kerry-did you already buy the motor? That's way too hot for P mono. You want the 1521 1.5D. You will burn up equipment w/that motor, guaranteed.Comment

If I ran it in my P Mono I was going to run it on 3S. 4S would have been 43,000 rpm of smoke. It would be interesting to see how it ran on 3S with the right prop. However, I ran the 2180kv TP 4082 in it yesterday with a ABC H5 and I FINALLY have it dialed in. Fast and very stable. I ran it WOT for 5 minutes. Maybe I will run the NEU 2900 in the SAWs next spring :-).
