When you grind the end on a bench grinder you rotate the flex & apply only light pressure, mine dosnt even blue on the end & comes away with a shiny finish so no excessive heat to the flex. If your worried about burning the flex just dip in water a few times when grinding, no different to burning a drill when sharpening.
