Hi guy's, just did a swap of motors in a 32"cat, went from an 8xl 2100kv to a leopard 3665 2100kv and I got around 2 minutes. Bringing it back to shore to check temps and it stopped suddenly and seen smoke, never a good sign. Where did I go wrong guy's?. It has (had) good water flow, using 2x 2s batteries, 5000mah 30c, octura x440/3. Speedy was a swordfish 200a esc. Oh and now I understand why i see so many posts in threads about how bad the smell is.

It's hard to say, the Leopard is a smaller motor than the Feigao meaning it may have less torque and working harder with the same prop. But as likely you damaged the ESC in the past and it decided to give up with the Leopard. Damage to ESCs can be cumulative, what you were doing when the ESC burned may not be related to the actual damage. It is very difficult to diagnose problems like this where it seems you did nothing wrong - your setup does not seem like it would have drawn over 200 amps. A lot depends on how lose the cat was running, driveline binding, etc.

Thanks Fluid, I have had alot of problem's with this speedy, this was the first run I have made since I have been able to program it correctly, had alot off issues with the firmware. As for the driveline, is there a way of using a multi meter to check the resistance of an unloaded(say at a low rpm) motor and then connect the drive line and measure it again to compare the difference. Probably sounds silly mate but I don't want to make the same mistake twice, it feels okay but you never know. As they say, better to be safe than sorry.
