    JAE 21 strut question

What is the length of the 21 Z strut? I'm planning on using a standard style instead, need the length to make the purchase.
Just not a fan of the Z although they do work.
Anybody making turnfins that are a little stiffer than the stock one? Don't have the ability to bend or roll anything that thick properly.
    Cheers and Thanks

The Z strut from transome to end of strut is 2.5" long, if you fitting another strut try & get one that has a short overhang at the front of the bracket & longer at the rear. Most struts i see have the long overhang at the front & shorter at the rear, this makes getting the front of the strut difficult to get inside the ski because of the slope on the ski. Re the fin on the stock fin you can use a aluminium doubler above the waterline to stiffen the stock fin or over on International Waters just about everyone uses a David Pressue fin. Cheers and thanks, I knew somebody was making fins but couldn't find them on here.

Theirs another guy on International Waters that makes good fins as well called Mike Hughes, [email protected]. Both Davids & Mikes fins are said to be very good upgrades for the JAE, their different shapes to the originals & improve the performance further on the JAE.

Does anyone have pictures of each? I've tried many times but can't get into IW.

The Speedmaster 21 strut works perfect and goes inside the ski no problem. Plus it has the Speedmaster floating bushing which has been wear and trouble free for 2 years now. You have to sand the 1/4" stuffing tube at the rear until it is an easy fit in the strut, then the bushing and the cable slide right in. Keep it greased and you should have no problem. I'm running a Leopard 3674 2650 kv, Hydra 240 LV, Hyperion 45c 5000 mah 4s. Can't remember the prop offhand- it's an Octura M series. If you want to know, I'll pull it and let you know.

An ABC H7 is one of the best props on the JAE 21FE & a very popular choice.

Speedmaster is the plan, but I prefer lead/teflon bushings. Not quite so easy on the stuffing tube, I won't use a liner, so it's a smaller diameter tube then sleeved up to fit in the end of the strut. Might have to ream the strut a touch to fit the bushings, no big deal, done that mod many times. Have one I machined to fit a ceramic bearing in the end, probably not worth the effort for a flex cable setup.
H7 with the 2030kv? I do not have one, I'll have to pick one up and give it a go.
Thanks for the turnfin guru info.
If this one runs like my nitro .12 one does I'll be very happy, that one handled almost perfect right off the board.

Thanks Martin that is just what I'm looking for, anyone have the same for the Mike Hughes fin?

If I am not mistaken this is the strut that JAE sent me for my.21 (before they came out with the Z strut) it needs the nose piece cutting off flush with the strut and the bottom front of the strut filing down at an angle so it sits low and flat on the ski. I have just swapped to a wire drive in mine with a new strut so have my modified one sitting here doing nothing, it needs new Lead/teflon bearings as I threw a prop blade last year and that was part of the reason for me changing it, and I am still using the brackets so it would just be the strut itself, the brackets place the strut bolt 1.5" behind the transom.

If you go to Speedmaster site they have some nice looking struts with a short nose & longer rear ideal for the JAE, their also available either round or flat bottomed.

I believe the Hughes fin is the same size and shape as the Stock Zipp fin but much stiffer so it doesn't bend, the Hughes fin comes sharpened but the Preusse fin doesn't come sharpened. Hughes fin pictured
