    Boat Building supplies

    Hello all:

I need some assistance in finding a very high quality flex shafts, and brass stuffing tube with teflon liner, they will be used in a cat, so I would need left/right rotation, also what is the perferd method for mounting the shaft to the drive dog..welding? or epoxy, Thanks for the help.

You are already at one of the best places, right here on Offshore Electrics.
Have a look through the whole shop, but here's a link to the driveline section.

See the danger. THEN DO IT ANYWAY!!!

I've never had any issues with OSE... They have great prices and very fast shipping.

The best flex shafts are the Hughy brand currently.

And have been for a very long time! Factory assembled, just cut to length.
I'd skip the teflon, adds drag as well as being a very weak link in the drive line, once it starts to wear little strings form, they can bind up the flex causing the drive line to grenade. Proper sized K&S brass tubing is all you need, brass makes an excellent bushing material. I still have a boat from the 80's running the original stuffing tube.
Once the flex cable is under load it forms a spiral inside the stuffing tube and only makes contact in a couple areas at any time. All that extra contact area is just extra drag with the liner.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

Thanks all for the help, Siberian, you don't think I should use teflon? Won't it aid in keeping the drive line free of water, also do the offer just the flex shaft? I don't need the dog end, I have to weld it to mine.. Thanks Paul
