    ESC Glitch

    OK here is an odd one. Three times I have had this happen in the past year. I am running my SAW boat and it will not stay on the water. As the boat passes me , after a longer than normal start trying to settle it down, it souds like it is screaming, and it is . Data logger shows 5,000 more rpm than normal and its only at 80+ mph, than she blows off.. It apears that the ESC is some how letting in more power to the motor with voltage drop being much less aswell.The boat can not handle the rpm and excelleration and blows over really earlly in the run. This boat is very very predictable and never gives a hint it wants to do something funny on any run EVER. I will go back tommorow morning but am sure it will not do it again. Rpm is always around 43,000 at 95-98 and this time 48,500......big increase. Conditions where the same as usual with the same temperature. I wouldnt think an ESC could do that? Anyone ever see this??? Thanks

    Never seen that issue before but it sounds more like a radio issue. Or maybe somewhere a connectivity issue. So the obvious questions are;

    1. What radio system?
    2. Which ESC?
    3. Hows the wiring? This one question should detail not only rx/esc but as well any BEC/5volt suply, servo extensions, bullets, on/off switch, etc.

    A speedo might suffer some power issue you describe if it had some poorly soldered FET's. Boy, that one would be hard to trouble shoot without a spare speedo on hand you could swap out and see if its one particular device. But I would guess it should be showing up in other ways like too much heat on one leg or maybe it surging or unexpected shutdowns. Things like that. Once your throttle linerarity is set on the Tx it should remain stable. Sounds like yours goes a bit crazy once in awhile?

      Ok now im beyond that problem and moved to a new one. The esc seems to have no controll over power being applied. You hit the throttle to jump the boat on plane and it will not release full throttle for a second or two and flips itself. Than if your into it full throttle in the run the motor will just stop and start instantaniously two or three times, swapped out the esc and then the reciever no change. Cant see a radio doing this because of how fast the motor stops and starts during the run, almost loke its going to reverse for a split second. Its a Hitec radio, synth reciever, seperate battery pack.

      A buddy just suggested possibly reverse coming on at full throttle at times? Dont know.

        Wow. Something is definately not right. Ok. Maybe not the radio system but keep it at the forefront of thought. Rearward travel or travel in acceleration for the throttle signal should not trigger a reverse signal. Not if 2 basic functions are operating correctly. End points correctly adjusted and throttle curve not tweaked. Since I dont know what speedo you are using do you suspect you might need a signal adapter like a PiStix? Or better yet answer just the basic question to your self. Does the speedo have a reverse function and or even reverse capable?

          Its a Hydra 240 HV. I will make one last try friday morning with new ESC, Radio and reciever I have.....than i am done. Already talked with Castle, Neu and Hitec. Getin tired of crap like this when its such a production to run this boat,preheat batteries on a timer at night , pack everything up, get to lake and then make it to work at 7:30. Not fun. LOL
