To avoid confusion, I just mentioned "normal rotation". If I use a Flex cable that is design for that, prop should rotate anti-clockwise viewwd looking at the transom, under this scenario, water should not enter, with the same cable, if I reverse motor rotation, water will enter. A Cable that is meant to rotate clockwise ( looking at transom), and is turng clockwise, water still will not enter.
But I am trying to forget this as i have been convinced by Chief here that under full power and in the real world this "theory" doesn't holdup. So please help me to forget it

I used this China stinger on a friends mono I built. That gap was the 1st thing I noticed. The second was that the 3/16 stub shaft would not go into the lead teflon bushings. I hated that thing ever since. I ended up removing the bushings and made my own brass bushing with grease holes in it. Its been working great. As far as the gap, I used clear silicon to seal the gap. Never a problem with water up the tube. One thing I learned from using cheap hardware is that you have to mod it to make it work. To me, its a waste of time. Id rather spend a couple extra bucks and get Speedmaster just because its not a headache in the least bit and its made in the USA. To each his own. Im not bashing people that use China hardware, just typing my experience with with.

I couldn't agree with you more! Infact, I also noticed the gap from the get-go and placed a large dia. fuel tube over the exit of the stuffing tube, my mistake was I assumed it sealed up the gap and continued to hold this false believe , it is not until all these people gave me helpuf advice did i re-examine the situation. Now I used clear silicone sealant and hopefully today I will have a chance to test the stinger. I thought of replacing the whole assembly with USA made ones, but I got the boat relatively cheap and want to save the money for a build maybe in the summer when I gather enough courage, it's been great to learn. I have a 2,25 inch stub shaft that I know it is reaching the transom side bushing. Thanks for pointing it out.

Yeah, might be easier just to upgrade the strut to speedmaster stinger and be done with it...

When you get water going up the stuffing tube i believe it dosnt have anything to do with flex rotation, its more to do with the water pressure that you get between for example the end of the strut & drive dog (this is why some bevel the front of the dog around 10degress) to reduce the pressure & reduce water being forced up the tube. Same thing applies if you have a leak at the front of the strut or stinger.

Just a thought but are you sure the water is coming up the shaft into the boat or is your jacket leaking on your motor or a leak where a pipe connects somewhere.

@ Chief, I know what you mean, it is not worth the trouble, just be done with change and upgrading. But another side of me was so ticked off that I want to solve the problem.
@Martin, because I am a newbie, I just couldn't imagine how much pressure was generated when the boat was full steam ahead, now I know.

@ CeilidhKeith, thanks, the first thing I did when I got the boat was to check everything that might leak, I pressure the water line thru the rudder tube with a syringe. So the leak is not from there.

OK, I tested and the words "BONE DRY" have never meant this much to me! All the extra sealing and making sure the bushings were right paid off! I gained my sanity back thanks to you all, Have a great Holiday weekend!

Well I know Remy @ AM is working on something that might be worth calling him about it fits right over the stuffing and a bearing rides or supports the cable # is 302-628-3944

I was looking at the windings of the cable, normal rotation cable should "push" water down the tube, if anything, it's like a screw, so after putting a tight silicone fuel tube how is it possible for water to just spin out from there, I can tell by the blue grease the water has splashed out. I get 2 oz. if not more water for every 2 min. ride. All my other boats don't have this problem. BTW, it is a Pursuit, not heavily moded, 0.25 inch brass stuffing tube, teflon liner and .150 Kintec flex cable, stinger. Teflon liner is not spinning, no abnormal operation.
Another thing: when I first got this boat, it didn't have any issues, but then I had to change a cable as the one came was no longer in good conditon. I got the replacement from Jan and it's beautifully made, I gave him the measurements and he custom made for me, with 2.25 inch shaft. I needed a shorter cable than his on the shelf pieces. Does shaft length have anything to do with it? Lost original cable after leaving it in the house ( family member trashing it) so i don't remember/know original shaft length.

Ps, I've spent so much time making my boats watertight, but now i am working on a 1/10 scale shovelnose that is designed to run "wet" (no way to waterproof the hull). So now my attention has turned to waterproofing components...
