Made a couple runs with the new leopards 2860's

Well I made a few passes with the new Leopard 2860/3400 kv mtrs. (Thanks Steven V)

1st run with my sons 11.2's 45/90c with 36mm 3 blade red Venom props. 47.8mph

Motor temps were 75ish deg with my IR gun on the back of the can, esc's were 85deg.

2nd run with my 14.8 40/50c same props 57.7mph. Temps were 94 on the back of the can and the esc's were 115/120deg

I would like to try my 40mm cf props with both voltage batteries.

What is a safe temp for the esc's and motors?

What should the timing be for these or inrunner motors?

The boat is a EKOS twin cat.

    Thanks in advance,

    Chris

130-140 degrees is "safe". I've ran my leopards at 170-180 with no issues - yet. I wouldn't push it past that. JIM

The 130-140 degrees is the motor temp or the esc or both?

That 170-180 was the motor. The T-180 esc ran around 130 degrees. JIM

I'm using 120a esc's. Any thoughts on timing for these or inrunner motors

Here's a quote from Fluid on another thread:

"The numbers 2, 3, 4 etc are the number of turns on the motor stator. You really don't need to know this, the motor size, number of poles and Kv (rpm/volt) are more important. As for the Wye (Y) and Delta (D) winding configurations; while these do have different power characteristics, the most important part is the timing advance they require. A D wind runs 0-4* advance, the Y from 5-15*.

I too recommend The Leopard 4074/1400 motor. Just keep the prop small or you'll burn up the ESC or motor, or overheat the cells; start with an m445 and work up to an m645. I ran 89 mph with this hull using a Castle 1515/1Y on 6S, but that was a SAW-only setup pulling 200-220 amps. 60 mpg should be a snap."

Also, check the thread titled "Help understand brushless motor specs". Lots of good info there. JIM

                Jim;
Wish I could get 60 mpg from my set up as well.

                I had to man (smile)

So I would be ok with the 40mm cf props checking temps ?

I'm still learning this prop stuff. M445= 4 pitch, 45 diameter?

I'm off to prop talk !

That leopard motor is a D wind so as stated 0-4 degrees timing, re pitch thats a 1.4 ratio x diam so 1.4 x 45mm = 63mm pitch or 2.48".

Well, I "tried" the 40mm cf props in within the 2nd pass starting out easy to full throttle the starboard side lost 2/3 of it's blades. The boat was 75yds from me when I noticed it
so I couldn't tell if I hit something.

Is this somewhat common with this style prop? Can I just get a replacement or should I just by 2?

The motors are D winds.................7.5* or less.

Yep, at high rpms they throw blades..............you need metal props............maybe x442's in R and L on 3s.

Plastic/Carbon composit props won't last one run with FE boats. To hit the pedal you gotta have metal. JIM
