running all spektrum stuff and can't seem to get much rang. I'm not using a external antenna but run the two wire on the right side of the hull which faces me at the greatest distance while running laps.
anyone have a fix?

run the antennaes properly! They tell you how and why in the manual.

I just got my DX3R PRO and running the MR200 rx in a Mystic. No range problems at all. Used to have problems with non-marine radios all the time. I run the antennas as instructed in the manual, small one horizontal in the hull, long one vertical out the top.

Yes, run an external antenna (and the other at 90*). While some guys apparently get away with no external antenna, IME you are foolish to run without one. The smaller and lower the hull is, the greater need for an external antenna. The only guy in our club who seems to have no trouble without an external antenna runs a 10S mono - the deck is about 8" above the water surface when he's on step.

I just finished installing a vertical antenna in the pursuit and will see how well it works this afternoon. Of it works I'll be changing all the boat to vertical.
I'll check back after the run.
