Hi all a friend gave me an Astro 05 6t 19 ga wire on the arm 5/32 shaft cobalt motor i want to use in a old 22 1/2'' monohull . Do's any one remember how many cells can be used with this motor and what props would be suitable? im guessing it would be 1992 era motor. Regards Andris Golts.

Astroflight motors were OK for thier day, but were not competitive with cheaper & more available 05 brushless motors. Here is the one that's been sitting on top of my cabnet for 25+ years (bad bearings).
They ran on 6-7 1.2 Volt NiCads, and later NiMH.
Do yourself a favor and put a 30mm brushless motor in your old 22 1/2" hull. Your Astroflight belongs in a antique RC car museum. Also make a good paperweight. JIMJIM MARCUM: NAMBA 777; EX? Hey!!!! I almost had the 18 cell record with that motor back in the day. It'll run fine in your little mono if you have a controller for it.If not then might be a pain to find.I could check an old Astro 207 ESC that I have.Depends what you need or want from the boat.
Think I have a couple couplers as well.Comment

Shawn, "back in the day" must have been when I started RC 1/10th scale off road racing with a stock Tamya Frog. I bought the Frog from the first and only Price Club (now COSTCO) here in San Diego in 1977 - around the same time Associated brought out the RC-10 buggy. But with a 7 cell "Open Class" limit the Astroflight motors never caught on in car racing. The Astroflight with it's huge brushes & high voltage capicity may indeed work fine in a boat. But even if you can find replacement brushes for it, it would probably cost mote than a new 30mm brushless motor.
Andris, if you want a 75Mhz FM RX for the Astroflight I'd be happy to send you the Novak from my 11 time frist place winning Losi buggy for $5 postage paid. This was the top of the line "in the day" and as it has infinitely adjustable channels so it requires no crystals. Pop in a brushed ESC & you're ready to go. JIM
