Need strut with 1/4" ball bearings for 1/4" shaft

I need a strut (not a strudder) for my Avenger Pro cat. I want it to have 1/4" ball or roller bearings for 1/4" shaft. Anyone know where to buy one? JIM

You wont be able to find any strut or stinger in a reasonable size to accomadate a .250 ID and use .250 bearings. The OD would be something like 13/16". More likely your going to have to settle for a needle bearing setup. You can find a .250 ID needle bearing with a 7/16 OD housing. That would put you somewhere close to a .625 diameter strut/ stinger. The problem with needle bearings are they are RPM limited compared against roller bearings. Just my 2 cents.

Kintec has one with pin rollers.

I was looking to see what was available 1/4" wise recently. I decided against it as my industry experience tells me those bearings are not rated for the RPM's we typically run. They do however offer a real good amount of load ratings. I highly doubt you would find a tapered roller bearing either... Roller Ball Bearing will have a large OD as already stated.

IMO good bronze bearing with cross drilled graphite.

It's funny, I can find a bearing strut for 4mm (Etti), but not one for 1/4". Jeff Wohlt ([email protected]) used to make bearing struts. He might have one in 1/4" or be able to make one for you.

Jim, STOP CRAZYMAKING ! Use a teflon bearing strut.

I highly recommend Boca Bearings if you do need bearings.

Don't know of anyone making them for 1/4" bearings as the strut is typically pretty big due to the outer diameter of the bearings.

Thanks everyone. I'll go with Tony's advice & use teflon bushings. JIM

You'll be sorry. Teflon wears out very fast. Use brass sleeves like most everyone else.

                      Jim,

I've used ball bearing struts before. Hard to keep bearings in place, if too tight the race gets stuck in the strut & impossible to remove without damaging strut I.D. Expensive, high maintenence & get sloppy quickly. The big gassers use teflon. Easy and cheap to replace. I do use brass bushings in my stingers, teflon in the suspended struts.

BTW, you forgot my 2006 LSO SAW record
