    drambuie on ice question

This summer I am considering building a drambuie on ice but I am unsure of how I would like to power the boat. There are so many options out there and with my goal speed only being 65mph I'm not sure if I should go twins or go with a really big single setup.

For a twin setup I would like to go with the leopard 5692-alike motors offered by hobbyking they're only like 70 bucks and from what I have heard are better than the leopard equivalent. For esc I was thinking the swordfish HV but then I came across the castle 200a-HV on ebay for almost the same price. Thoughts?

Now if I were to run the boat with a single motor I would go with the castle 2028 and castle 200a-HV esc.

Batteries looking to run 8s-10s (4 5000 1/2 in series 1/2 in parallel). if single drive. If dual motors then 10s with 10s each side, (4 5000 in series). I am really not all that concerned with breaking speed records I just want a very scale looking boat that corners well and reaches a fairly impressive speed. I really want all thoughts on this, (whether I should go single or twin). I want a boat that is very reliable and I like castle stuff because they're warranty service is just a tad better than hobbyking's. I was torn between this and a gas boat but I love the simplicity of an electric boat and of course the acceleration. I really care about reliability and like having a boat that can handle a few more volts but will last forever if I should away from running the extra 1-2s. I am amazed when I see people today putting scorpion 5035 motors in 65 inch boats and reaching high top speeds.

    Thanks again guys

      Seriously, why?

Eliminate torque roll would be one big benefit I can imagine, during acceleration when my single motor Genesis looks like it's going to flip over sideways if I give it too much throttle, too quick.

But what about additional weight. Will a twin likely be faster or turn better than a single motor set up?

Obviously more maintenaance on a twin, and extra cost - guess that goes without saying.

An idea/new project I have been pondering on, for 2012

I currently have a cat about 10 inches shorter than the drambuie and the handling is great with twins. Someone once made the analogy to me that to run a boat full throttle is the equivalent of trying to drive a car through a brick wall. On my cat I can run $50 turnigy 120amp escs, on a 53 inch cat I have to spend almost $300 plus its not as economical to just keep an "extra," $300 esc in my car as I can with turnigy.

I feel like I need a few months more of research before throwing money into the project, but I agree the twin probably will turn better. I noticed seaking has a new 180 HV esc available in the store for $180, any thoughts?

Yes I saw your thread the build spec is amazing on that boat. As of right now I am trying to stay below 3000 on the build, I am going to run 8s per side, two 4s packs in series and possible run another four in parallel. I think I am going to go with the mystic 138 now, hopefully the boat will be finished with the miss geico green paint and mhz stickers. Anyway its difficult for me right now selecting motors for this thing. I saw the scorpion 4035 and they are a low kv motor and it seems the pull low amps.

My question is should I run the turnigy 5692 on 8s per side, or go with the scorpion 4035? Either will be run with castle ice hv esc. If the turnigy is like the leopard I think they pull very high amps making them not very efficient? My goal is around 65-80 for the boat. Thanks again.
