    Rudder length?

Looking at picking up some speed, looks like my boat has a lot of rudder. Dont use it for racing or real high speed turns, is there any speed there in shortening one? Or a standard or ratio for length? THis is a 50" cat, twin motors

On my own SAW boat the rudder was shortened from 5 inches to 2-3/4 . It is faster because of the less drag. There is 10 times more water, Hydrodynamic, drag than there is air, Aerodynamic, drag.
PT-45, 109mph, finally gave up after last bad crash
    H&M 1/8 Miss Bud 73 mph
    Chris Craft 16 mph

Rule of thumb is 1 to 1.5" past bottom of prop. A shorter rudder will only net you a few mph so not really worth it for sport.

I had about 2.25 from the bottom of the boat ride surface, will measure verses the props. It sure looks longer than it needs to be.
I already thinned it out a little
