    GT3B model presets?

Just in the process of finishing my rescue rig, all my models use the gt3b rx's on different model presets and I was planning the same for the rescue rig, however I've just been told NOT to use this as even switching to a different model (ie rescue rig) I would likely end up with inference with both stranded and rescue rig receiving a single??

Can anyone shed any light, I thought the whole point of model presets was that this would happen, but equally don't want to have my stranded boat upside down revving out as I use my rescue rig, I know an easy way would be to try having two of my other models on at the same time and see what happens but I am ill in bed so thought I'd post the question out there.

    Thanks

Try it on the bench first. I've read the same thing about those radios as well a few times now.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

It will store presets for each model but it is NOT model specific like the Spectrum radio. You will need another radio for your rescue boat. Its a step above the Tactic which has to be configured for each boat every time you run.

Thanks, I will keep a lookout for a cheap 27mhz set.

Why not just get the GT2 or the Hobbyking version?

Nevermind, both Hobbyking and HobbyPartz are out of stock.

It just makes sense to have a different radio for your rescue boat, in case it's the radio that is having problems.

Yeah just seen they are out of stock GT2 would have been ideal, I've put it on stock reminder.

Yes this info is spot on. The main thing for the TX is that it saves rudder position, rudder dual rate, etc and these can be customized for each. The Spectrum costs a lot more for this reason and others.

I found out my 3pk would do that as well, after running an electric and not unplugging it then switching to a nitro boat the electric was still reving. I'm using the GT3b for my FE boats now so I switched the rescue back to a Tactic so there are no conflicts rescuing the FE's. But now I have to pack 3 radios :)

the way i solved this was hooking up a servo to the third channel. You then hook up your external rx or bec wire to the servo arm. Then when you click the button for the third channel it rips out the power for that boat and you can then plug in your rescue boat to retrieve your flipped boat.

but here is why i suggest not using a rc rescue boat. Ive sank 2 of them, one my buddy crashed into screwing around and just recently i had another one go down the other day because there was not much room for foam and i didn't put any. I made a mod to the hull that i thought would help reduce how hard the boat keeled over. well i went to turn right and the boat cork screwed to the left and then i sat there and watched as it went under.

What i do suggest is getting an inflatable raft from walmart. i got a one person that will hold 190 lbs for 18 bucks and a dc 12 volt pump to use in the car for 15, then i spent another 15 on an oar. There is also a 2 and 3 person version. One big problem i found with rc rescues, aside from them sinking is that sometimes your boat will flip 200 or more feet offshore then you have to try and line up your rescue boat with your downed boat, depth perception at that range is not that easy and sometimes would take me 5 or more attempts to hook up with my downed boat. Now i just row out and get it, best purchase i have made for boat recovery.

Very ingenious !!! It took me a few reads to fully understand exactly what you were saying, like "You then hook up your external rx or bec wire to the servo arm. Then when you click the button for the third channel it rips out the power for that boat". So you do actually physically rip out the connector using the servo arm Yeah, that would certainly work. I love it!

But now you've got my mind ticking over, you could probably achieve the same using an electronic "servo" switch, like they use to switch on and off lights and landing gear on RC cars and planes, and use this to achieve the same end result, but without the need for an actual servo ripping the connector out.

This forum never ceases to amaze me!

I have to disagree, my rescue boat has been retrieving nitro and electric boats for 4 years without any problems, and for me a cheap inflatable death trap and sharp rudders and turn fins don't mix too well especially on the 1/8 scales. Plus I'm too old too get in and out of the friggin things without falling in.
One of these would be sweet, they have a metal gear basket.

If I were you, I would get a 2.4ghz aircraft radio to use in the rescue boat. They operate differently, signal wise, from the surface radios. No chance of interfering with anything. There are some super Cheap 4ch stick radios out there. Here's one:

                              .

What ever works you know. At 160 and only 25. It's more fun then a hassle to paddle out. I seem to struggle with connecting the two rc boats together.
