    RPM question

Hi guys, first time poster here, and a bit new to electric boats, (not new to rc thought)
I think my question is along the same lines as the one that Wave skipper recently posted about upgradeing to a larger boat, but here goes..... its kinda long winded, sorry.

I have read a few places that for sport boats its good to stay with in the 25000-35000 rpm, is the true? if so it brings me to the next part of my question...

Im looking at buying the hobbyking ospray boat, and it comes with a 4074 size 2200kv motor and they are recomending running it on 6s, so if i do the math 22.2volts x 2200kv= 48840rpm thats much higher then the recomended range...
    could i run this boat on the 4s batts i already have 14.8volts x 2200kv= 32560 rpm ???

the way i see it, the better choice for me (the recreational sport boater) would be to run 4s, or am i totally lost and out to lunch???

Thanks for any advise you guys can offer.

No, you're not lost and out to lunch!. 6S is too much for the 4074 2200Kv, and so is 48840 RPM.

4S would be a far better bet in my opinion. Most guys on this forum seem to run 4S with this motor.

As said the 4074 - 2200kv is a 4s motor, the 4074 motor is to small for the 41" Osprey hull. Most that have this hull fit a larger motor like a Leopard 5692 - 1390kv & use 6s or one of the Hobbyking motors of a simular size to keep costs reasonable. If price is not of concern then they use lower kv & run 8s or 10s, the Osprey is a big boat.

hey guys, thanks for the replys, big help!!
I think i will indeed get the osprey and run 4s for now, then upgrade in the future as martin suggested.

        Take care everyone

The 4074 would look tiny in the Osprey.

I got one coming in and Im going to drop a 5692 into it. Size does matter
42" Osprey, 32" Pursuit, 26" Bling Rocket (rescue), Blizzard Rigger, JAE 21FE rigger, Hobby King rigger (RIP)
