new game: find lost boat lol

hey all needing some out of box thinking here,i lost my gruapner tia fun hydro last summer at local lake went in a few time with goggles but so much muck a wave of my hand and lights out cant see.ived looked at video systems for but too much $.a friend said to use a tube with some plastic disc on bottom with weights? i have a small boat so getting over the last known point is no prob. its lost in about 9 ft deep on a flat rocky shelf . i just cant let the lake beat me. any and all ideas are welcome. i ask this now because im going back soon as it warms up a bit but befor the algea has a chance to muck up the water.
lost cause maybe but even for the lolz im gonna have to try
    thanks tom.

A rocky bottom makes it more difficult to find the boat from the surface. A long aluminum pole with a "T" shape can be used from a boat to 'drag' the bottom, listening and feeling for a hit on the model hull. But rocky bottoms would make that tough to do, the technique works well on grass, mud, etc. Also, FE boats can travel long distances underwater. If the boat lacks a failsafe, the motor will continue at the speed it last was told to run by the radio when the antenna went under. The model may be within a few yards of where it sunk - ot it could be a hundred yards away. Underwater currents can also carry the model a long ways.

However, I suspect that when you find the the boat it will not be worth the effort. A year under water will have ruined the radio, ESC, packs, cable, probably the motor and hardware. I've seen boats that were under that long and it wasn't pretty - but a lot depends on the temperature and water chemistry of your pond. Just don't expect to be able to use much of what you recover. The boat below was under about a year - after looking at everything carefully, the owner put it back on the bottom. There was nothing to salvage.

Well guys let me tell you my story , maiden voyage on a brand new delta force vortex hydro everything was new on the boat , putted on the water ran for about 2 min , I didn't take it far just in case however it died on my and wind was blowing away from me drifting the boat faster then what I thought by the time I got my fishing rod it was to far for me to cast it so I waited for it to drift across the pond to the other side the bad news was the was a bank of ice 40feet from shore and the boat was stock there so I still couldnt cast my fishing rod that far cause now the wind was against me , I try to get the boat to run again however if I try to run it across the pond I might lost the signal half way so I hooped the boat on top the ice bank thinking it wouldn't go no where " wrong move" make the story short the boat frozed over night between the ice , I went back to check on it for a week just to see my boat frozen in place by the 4th day the I've had cracked the hull and under she went like the titanic

Man, that frozen/cracked in the ice boat story reminds me why I live in San Diego. If a boat has been on the bottom for a year its best to leave it there - unless it's an expensive hull.

When I was working for KELCO as a professional SCUBA/HOOKA diver, I developed a SCUBA location/retrieval method that has always worked for me - even in 0 visability. I've talked about this method in other threads, but here it is: Tie a weight/anchor +- 5# to one end of a of polyprop ski rope or small nylon line 10-20' longer than the bottom is deep. Tie a bouy on the other end. Make a second line 75-100' long on a spool for the diver to use. If you are pretty sure you know where the boat sank, stay on shore and direct a boat driver to where it is & drop the weight/line/bouy on it. SCUBA diver goes down the bouy line to the weight with the longer line & ties one end to the weight, and starts making increasing radius circle passes. If vis is OK, diver should keep off the bottom so he won't mess the vis up. If 0 vis diver with garden gloves on (broken bottle protection) feels along the substrate in a arms-length sweeps as he makes each full circle. Continue making each circle adding an arms-length (6') of the long line with each complete circle pass until he finds your boat. To know when a circle has been completed, diver takes the initial bearing with his compass when he begins the first circle. When the diver's initial compass bearing is reached, lets out more line. Repeat until diver reaches the end of the rope.

This will give a 200' coverage area with a 100' line. Didn't find it? To know exactly where you started, make a second weight/bouy line and drop it about 50-75' from the first weight/bouy and repeat, repeat, repeat. JIM

Be sure to get a good wet or dry suit. You'll need it. JIM
