My first boat, my first boat build

    Hey all

Im still trying to figure out if it was a good idea, but I decided to try to make a RC boat. This is my first boat, and I have got myself in a mess. The hull of the boat is going good, and have ordered a motor (leopard 5692 730), the esc (200Amp), and a servo(water resistant).

    Questions:
1.I need some help with the battery(s)/battery charger tho. Can someone please give me a good combo to go with the motor I have selected. I was going to buy a 8s, am I better off buying 2 4s batteries?. I really have no experience with boats. Any feedback will help.

    2. When the frame of the boat is complete. What should I seal it with? fiberglass, Epoxy, Polycrylic.

The boat is about 44" long. made of basswood.

Hi Shawn, welcome to the forum.Great name BTW.A couple years back I scratch built a flat bottom jet boat(the one in my avatar). That one I skinned in light birch ply then wrapped it in glass. If you can use thin resin to bond to the ribbing it'll never come apart.Just tack it together with CA.I would go series with two 4s batteries.Chargers are up to whatever your requirements and funds permit.

Ok I know nothing about the bigger setups, but I'm pretty sure that you want either more voltage or possibly a higher KV motor, That setup will turn just over 20 000 rpm unloaded, most people are aiming for closer to 30 000 rpm unloaded.
You will have turn turn a pretty big prop to get any speed, not sure what that will do to amp draw and heat.
I believe you would want to run a 10s battery setup, would put you just under 30 000 unloaded.
LOL cost is what keeps me out of the big boats, been talking about building a 1/8 scale hydro for years now. Might happen next year, as of August my newest motorcycle will be paid for.
Brush a coat of thinned epoxy finishing resin over the inside before you put the deck of, this will make sure the glue joints are good and seal the inside against moisture.
Polyester resin pretty much just stinks up your place and doesn't add much in terms of strength.
You can thin the epoxy with a bit of 99% iso alcohol from a drugstore.
You might consider a layer of light fiberglass cloth on the outside, strength and durability.
Don't forget to build some kind of easy to tape hatch system, gotta keep the water and electricity away from each other.
Looks nice! Very clean build. Your design?
I'm a huge fan of scratch built boats, most of mine are built by me. Have 3 builds going on now in various stages of completion. LOL dark and cold here for half the year, gotta have something to do during the winter.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

Just notice the ON! Where are you? Bunch of us run in Peterborough. Also a good crew in the Toronto area, we're going to get down there to run with those guys at some point this summer.

I have messed up. The ESC I ordered isnt big enough for the 8cell battery. Can someone please give me a suggestion on which ESC I should go with. The cheaper the better (Im a student, I have to watch my cash)
