Does anyone have any recommendations for a servo that will run directly off a 2s pack and doesn't cost a fortune? Most of my receivers (Futaba R614FF) work fine on a 2s and I have a Novak BEC sitting around, but I'd rather just put a 1000 mAH 2s pack in there. I'm thinking 100 oz/in should be enough, and I prefer faster servos, .15 sec@60° or better. HRS compatible would be great, but not a deal breaker.

Just install the BEC, or a 5-6 cell NMH batt pack. No shortcuts here. JIMJIM MARCUM: NAMBA 777; EX? Jim,
HV radio setups aren't really a shortcut. I had my short course truck set up that way and it was substantially better. I suspect that all high end radios will be going that direction soon. Less stuff to blow up that way, namely BECs. It does mean an extra battery in anything with more than 2 cells, though.
oscarel,
Perfect, thanks! I didn't realize those were high voltage. It'll let me reprogram the center point instead of using subtrim, too.Comment

What type of 2s receiver pack are you using? I am pretty sure the 2s LiFePO4 6.6 volt receiver batteries are OK to use with standard servo. The 2s Lipo 7.4 volt receiver packs are higher voltage and more risky to use standard servo. I really dislike NIMH packs.Comment

You can find these on eBay for less than $50, plus they're waterproof.Comment

Detox, 1300 or 1600 mAH Gens Ace lipo, most likely, but I hadn't thought about a life pack. I might have to see if I can hunt one down tomorrow. Worst case I blow up a Proboat servo and have to put a new one in, which I'm already planning on doing anyway.
Oscarel, yeah, I noticed the speed when I got to looking. Still faster than what's in it now, but not by much. I'm going through the Hitec chart now. Once I've sorted through that I can head down to the hobby shop and see what they have on the shelf.Comment
