    Fiberglass installation help

Got a couple of hulls I want to reinforce but only have exprience in life size boat fiberglass. I see at the lhs they have special epoxies, do I need these or is regular resin/hardner ok? What about carbon fiber? Same lay as regular fiberglass? Sorry about the newb questions but this is my first attempt at fiberglass in RC.

Im sure whatever resin-hardner you have would work, but why not use what is specificly made for rc apps..This stuff works great and is not brittle! http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...p?prod=dh-pt40

Thanks, will take your advice and use the zpoxy. What about carbon fibercloth? Would I apply this just like regular cloth?

Yes it will lay the same..Keep in mind carbon fiber will affect your range capabilities on your radio system..Fiberglass will not..The reason im saying this is I dont like to run antennas outside the boat..Its just another place for water to get in..

Range? Good to know, thanks. What about hybrid weave, such as half nylon and half kevlar? Will this also affect range?

Your full sized glassing experience works with FE too. Remember to prep the surface with an acetone wipedown first. If your hull is poly ester resin & you use epoxy, remember you can't use poly ester resin for future patches over the epoxy. I prefer vinyl ester as it is nearly as strong and water repellant as epoxy, but you can apply either poly ester or epoxy over it. As with full sized boats, you can't apply gelcoat over epoxy, only paint. FYI: Aeromarine boats have a gelcoat finish.

Kevlar will not effect your range any more than fiberglass. Whatever you chose to do, mount the antenna on the top of the hull. JIM
