    The pinkert Gator

    Hi folks.

I recently got this boat and was hoping you could help me work out a good set up for her.
She is 30" long and set up for 3/16 drive will that hold up to a high power set up?

What do you folks think would be a good set up to get this sucker moving again?
    can size and KV?
    Esc amps?
    Battery Mah?

Any chance you think new hardware will bolt up to the current T nuts?

Thanks for the time and advice.

looks heavy maybe a 6s setup a leopard 4082 1250kv a swordfish 200 amps esc and 6s 5000mah 40 lipos, i would remove what wood you can to fit lipos and new motor mount and see how heavy it is, the 3/16 is fine its standard

but a setup can all change with figuring out your motor placement and room for batteries, you will want to find your cog with all you electronics installed temporarly , batteries maybe the most difficult figure out either 2x batteries or one single both have there issues to wide or to tall

What do you think would be a good CG to shoot for?
      One inch behind sponsons?

It almost looks like my wingding that I'm converting to fe, except the wingding had large metal sponsons supports which I changed to carbon rods and moved the sponsons out further, the hull is 32" and I"m going to try a 1390kv on 6s, its still in the works.
you can see a pic of it in the ul-1 section under whats this and want to convert it.

My suggestion is a Leopard 4074 2000kv on 4s. Doesnt look like alot of room for batts so im thinkin 4s.

              Thanks folks.
Yeah She is heavy by today's standards, but I did not get her to break records.

The Leopard 4082 VS 4074 is just 8 MM longer? Is this the difference between running 6 and 4S?

I would like to lean towards 6S as she is a bit heavy but you are right the space and balance is gonna be a major issue.....

Also the hardware is a problem, I pulled out my box of junk and none of my stuff matches the current holes.... anyone make hardware that is not drilled?

Thanks for all your time and advice.

                More questions.
The holes for my drive strut are off set at least 1/4" to port. I think this is to counter prop walk?
Is this helpfull in both oval and SAW? Or better for one set up?

I think i have decided on 4082- lowest kv i can find and just mill longer?

I would like to run the seaking 180 for cost reasons. I realise this is not gonna like large props but I read that with an external RX batt it may handle 6s 2p?

Most important question is now that I have cleaned the tub out should i mount the bats up front and move the motor back or vice versa?

Where do most folks set CG on rigger kits?

Thanks so much, you folks are the Yoda of FE

If the old strut was offset to the port side then i would imagine it ran a clockwise prop on a counterclockwise course back in the day. I run a 2200kv 4082 if you want 4s for rooms sake, or they make a 1400kv range motor for 6s.

                    hey guy;
not meant to giscourage you, BUT, that is one very old rigger.
I used to run those in the early 80's. the strut is offset to the left to help counter act prop torque.
It ran 1400 series octura props in the stanard direction we run singles these days and it ran on the
standard clockwise oval heat racing courses.
That radio box can and WILL leak, the motor and front of the radio box area looks to me like it
is fuel/oil soaked over the decades.
the hardware of that time was Octura extruded stuff as well as Marine Specialties die cast ali stuff.
Todays hardware will not really work on it with the holes that are there in the transome.

If I were you , I would go ahead and get a JAE from OSE or Zipp Kits and have a alot more fun.

by the way, they (the Gator) does not and will not turn left. It will onyl barrel roll..................
I used to run single engine and twin engine gators back then.

                      Thanks
With this build Im more looking to bring an old girl back more than win races.
I just want her to come back at least as fast as she was, if not faster.

Do you folks think Id go wrong using something close to the JAE or ZIP kit CG?

Thanks for your time and advice

I would start with the CG @ 50%. That should get you in the ball park, if any CG adjustment is needed it won't be much.

I used to build and run alot of 4 point riggers and I always ran the CG 50/50.

You will need to contruct some kind of hatch that will keep the motor battery compartment dry as well.
