    Straight couplers

You guys run into this? I seem to have to go through a few Octura cable couplers to get one "fairly" straight but they never seem to be dead on. Anyone run into this.

I sell hundreds of set screw vesions...no complaints. Balanced better, plenty of holding power and light. The Octura are just easier but that is about all. Off balance and heavy...but EASY is what people want. You also want the ones with 2 set screws on the motor end if you run octura. Only the 078 and 150 I think come with 2. This squares it up on the shaft better. If it does not take a little effort to slide on then they are too lose.

It all boils down to tolerances and lengths. The tighter the fit the more true it will run. SLightly sloppy over a longer distance works also. Thats only true providing the manufacturer can keep the holes concentric- which can open up a whole new ball of wax. There are factors in this also.

Another thing to note is where your stuffing tube is in relation to the coupler. The more room in there the less critical. Less critical also with piano wire drives but closer helps keep the vibration out of them.

I made a few couplers on a lathe I know wasnt dialed in that good. However I was able to get VERY good concentricity due to proper machining practices. At 40K RPM they spin pretty dang true!
