Some of you have ben running boats in the snow. What type of hulls and prop are you using? The times I tried, all I did was make a hole in the snow

    same.
I beleive you have to get the prop spinning and then get it up to speed by giving it a nudge to get snow into the prop.
I tried with a bigger prop but i still had the same problems.

You need the right snow density for it. Cats work best. Twin cats are even better.

LOL need an rc ice boat, no snow in sight around here! Not much ice for that matter.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

I'm more a winter guy actually. I snowboard 3-4 days a week. I've got an open canal all winter when I get desperate to run. It's actually a really strange thing that it does stay open. Has virtually no current.

Both summer and winter, Skiing, ice climbing, pond hockey... Motorcycles, rc boats and cottage life! ALready looking into the first enduro's of the season and which trail rides I want to do this summer.
If it weren't for "ice cubes" I could still be running, lots of open water but I know there are some little chunks floating around in there. Enough to bend a blade.
For a winter with no snow I sure have worked a lot, only plowed a few times in Jan. but went through 300T of salt/sand and billed just shy of 70 000$
All it's done is rain during the day and drop a few degrees below freezing at night.
When I lived in Banff I would ski an average of 200 days a year, did a ton of rock, ice and mountain climbing out there. My favorite was doing winter mountain climbs, would always involve back country skiing to get in and out.
Boarding was just starting back then, used to have this crazy looking V tailed board, no such thing a boarding boots, I used my plastic ice climbing boots with a pair of downhill ski boot liners! AFter I got some skiing sponsorship from K2 they gave me a brand new K2 cruising board, they gave them to all of us extreme heads just so people would see them on the hill in people decked out in goofy K2 get ups trying stupid (fun) things!
Used to see band like Pearl Jam, Temple of the Dog etc in pubs, 3 years later I saw Pearl Jam and Neil Young fill the stadium in Vancouver!
The highlight and end of that era had to be seeing the Dead play in San. Fran. Almost moved to Oregon that weekend to farm goats on a commune with a blonde hippy chick! Next morning didn't seem like such a good idea! Amazing what you can trade a bag of dog food for at a Dead show. Few months later Garcia was dead. Moved back to Ontario, went to work......

Should have been there the night we had the Presidential Suite of the Banff Springs Hotel!
Won it at an Oktober fest party at the Springs.
Top 3 floors of the hotel including the citadel on top, a private pool, hot tub, baby grand piano, 32 year old school teacher at a conference at the hotel......
Debauchery taken to the highest form! Reality out there makes those cheezy ski school movies boring by comparison. No writer could dream up the stuff that really happens! The night we had the fight with a buck mule deer in rut and his herd of does. Or the night we thought a black bear was a drunk house mate who couldn't get through the door. Never open you door for a bear trying to get in your apartment!
Paragliders and pickup trucks are a bad combination, at least when used together on a highway.
After the first year didn't really spend much time in the bars, then we would usually go to Canmore.

Fresh powdery snow works best, You have to toss it or push it and start while it's already moving. You won't get it to go from a dead stop. Twin motor cats run the best.

I think this is what you're talking about:
Sometimes I wonder whether the world is being run by smart people who are putting us on or by imbeciles who really mean it.

I saw that video a couple years ago. It's a great video and very well done.

If the snow density is too light, nothing will get it moving. However if the snow is too wet it won't work that well either.

Just like in the water you should keep at least 8" of snow depth and know the area very well.

I'd also say a twin powered cat works best. For snow densitiy, I think when its too high you'll kill several components, especially motors and ESC's. I only tried it on fresh powdery snow and it worked good - maybe too good as I even flipped it. As for props I'd go for the biggest available - used X457's on the LMT 1940 motors, on water I run props with 42mm.

Standard rudder was inefficient, I think there could be made huge efforts with some testing of the right shape.

But be aware of obstacles under the snow!

                            Best regards,
                            Manuel

I shortened a rudder and welded some extra material on the back of the rudder when I did it. It worked great!
The boat in the pic was made of spare parts and was a bit of a piece of junk, but it ran very well in the snow. I would say 35-40mph.
                              I ran x447s on a 32" hull.
