            Guys,

While on this topic, I have a quick question. Have a 3/16 SM Stinger and I just noticed that the brass bushing is not snup in the stinger and it rotates when the drive line is turned. This typical? Do people do anything to secure it so it doesn't spin?

No, that is normal the Brass bushing with the holes just floats in the liner of the stinger

yeah, gas guys would disagree, but what do they know.
i have a SM strut also and it's free floating.

Yep...let it free float. It will eventually be loaded with grease anyways.

Boaterguy...why the stab at the gas guys all of a sudden??

You need to run the brass stuffing tube into the strut. 1/4" tube is what fits. The brass bushing then slides into it and rotates or should freely rotate.

bringing back this old thread. My speed master strut bushing likes to "float" right out of the strut. Basicaly the bushing works itself out into the 3/16" gap between the drive dog and strut and then of course the prop shaft starts wobbling like crazy. Any ideas as what to do to remedy this? This is a new strut and bushing with only 3 runs on it.

                          jeepme,

What do you mean it wobbles like crazy. You reving it dry? Or you getting cavitation in the water?

Not revving it dry, this happened when running the boat in the lake. The strut bushing works its way out of the strut ( the larger dia. end of the bushing ) enough to not support the prop shaft. Without support, you could hear it vibrating really loud. Stopped the boat and brought it in and saw the bushing.

I'm not questioning the sound, but they fact that you say it is not supporting the shaft. The shaft is like 1.5" long, so if it sticks out of the stinger 1/4", there should not be stability issues.

I wonder if you are having vibration from elsewhere. Like from a long, unsupported suffing tube in the hull? You have pics of botht he stuffing tube and the stinger?
