I think the motor might be a bit big. I'd go with the 28mm size motor

        28mm for a JAE 21FE?
I'd go with a 4s setup and spec power. They rock with the UL-1 motor.

Like Rum said, The UL1 power plant will work well in the 21. (not 12).

The ABC H7 is also a popular racing prop for UL1 power in the JAE.

                          Zippkits prop.
I'm building one now as well, UL-1 motor and 4s 5000mah packs. Basically the power system the boat was designed around. I know all the component locations will be right so I can set the CG right without any issues.
If I was going with a long can motor I might think about moving the motor towards the bow a bit to take into account the extra weight.
I like the keep the most mass as close to the CG as possible, instead of having all the weight at the ends of the boat.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

Re cg position on JAE hydros, i spoke with Rod Geraghty one of the designers of the JAE team about this very subject. I was fitting a larger motor & esc which altered the cg position. He said the JAE design boats were very forgiving on cg position & it would be fine. Martin.
