    Apparition: Upgaded flex shaft question

I don't want to loose a good prop when the stock flex shaft breaks, What is a good upgraded flex shaft, for this boat?

I could not even find any info on the stock shaft, (the dimensions)

    thanks

Stock is 4mm, your best bet would be to use wire drives like the upgrades for the EKOS I think jeff wohlt makes them

P.s does your stock setup not have a two piece shaft? If so you won't loose a prop if the flex snaps

Now I am still new at this, But it looks like a regular flex shaft and collet, what is a two piece shaft? and is the stock shaft "crap" on the Apparition?

Do I need to change it like I had to on my MC?

        thanks

If you undo the collet can you remove the flex by pulling it through from the prop? I don't think you will be able to and will have to remove the strut at which point the flex can be removed which has a square end which fits into the stub shaft which slots into your strut

I am sure someone else will be along with a photo as it will be easier to understand.

In answer to your other question, the stock shafts will be "ok" for a mild 4s setup, personally I am going to run wire drives.

I do want to run above 4s, so i guess i will do my homework on a wire drive.

            Thanks

I have some strut replacements for that hardware for 3/16" prop shafts. Let me know if you want one, they will be on the site by Monday,

I have both single & twin shaft Apparitions. They have a 2 piece flex drive with a square end on the aft end of the flex shaft that slides into the prop shaft. The flex shaft is removed by taking out the motor (2 screws) & sliding the assembly foreward.

The 4mm flex shaft is stronger than it looks. I've had my single motor Apparition up to high 60s, and will be shooting for 90 MPH at the SAWs. It did get bound up and the stock stuffing tube failed - enough parasitic drag to melt the ESC/Motor silver solder bullets appart - and was replaced with a 7/32" brass tube inside a 3/16" tube with NO Teflon liner. I haven't ran the new stuffing tube yet, but it rotates with very little drag. JIM

you can drill out your strut for a ul1 bushing and use a 150x3/16 flex but watch the hardshaft lenght as the ul1 shaft will hit your stuffing tube i prefer hughey shafts the drive dog is pinned in place and the shaft are shorter than the octuras also stonger weld in my opinion
