    New to FE and impressed

Hello All, I finally got my first fe , definitely alot quicker than back in the day when I used to run the good old johnson/graupner 700 on 14.4v nimh but I am now living a bit further away from the lake than I used to. Now I know this is probably a dumb question but I have to ask anyway, can i run these boat's in saltwater?. I used to run the brushed set up in both salt/fresh water without any major issues apart from the dean's occasionally corroding up on the + terminal. But I have been told by some I can, and other tell me it's not advised. Any input would be just awesome so I don't screw anything up. Thanks Guy's.......Gus

I run in a mixture of saltwater/fresh you just have to be A LOT more through in flushing everything through after every run.

Personally I flush immediately after my runs with fresh soapy water which I carry in a large milk container, wash with again when I am home and then use my air line to dry everything inc the cooling lines, to blow any water out, I also spray the hardware with a protective spray and of course remove, dry and regrease the flex after every time.

Thanks Matty, so maintenance is much the same as my real boat. I use a lanolin spray on all my hardware outside the boat and I already have soapy water in a pump bottle made to fit the cooling lines. I was worried if i got a little water inside and the lipo's got wet it would do damage as I have a tendancy of going a little too hard to show off when mates are around. I took it out this afternoon and it ended up on it's roof. It was pretty choppy(in rc terms that is) but it just looks awesome when you are going with the wind and it spends most of the time airborne. I just love it mate and i am already looking at bigger and faster. Maybe I should learn how to drive the one I got first. I can see this being an addiction.

seal it up tight with hatch tape and if you can make a sub hatch underneath you cowl so if it blows off you still have protection, also your next boat you may want to look into a boat with a flood chamber to right it self if it flips

galant2door, welcome to FE!!! I live in San Diego & it's hard to find a freshwater lake to run in. Our only designated boat pond is in Mission Bay & it's 100% saltwater. I ran nitro & gas boats there for years, but I would NEVER run my FEs in saltwater. One teaspoon full of saltwater can wipe out your ESC. Motors & RXs can be flushed out with freshwater, blow dryed, & shot up like a herion junkie with WD-40. Chance of survival 50/50. No amount of tape will keep a boat 100% water free. Unless your pockets are deeper than the ocean don't run your FE in saltwater. JIM
