How many of you have lost or destroyed a boat?

Made a comment last week about being ready to lose lose a boat due to collision, esc meltdown etc.
Got some pretty stupid comments back about that one, like I should find a new hobby etc....
Just noticed a pic of Diegoboys rigger all smashed in.
How many others have had similar things happen, I lost a tunnel hull years ago due to a radio glitch on AM. Only totaled boat I've had in 30+ years. Lots of race damage though.
I know some of you have hit turtles, somebody had a big blue mono self destruct during a run, bottom ripped out.
I've seen the results of race crashes from some of you. Read about many high dollar esc's going up in smoke
I know wparsons lost one in a river last year, quite a few have sunk.
Just interested in seeing what other people think about the potential of losing a boat or some expensive parts of it when you run it. Stuff happens beyond our control sometimes.
Personally I believe if you want to play you have to pay, I'm not happy when something goes seriously wrong, but I shrug it off as the price of having fun. Or it's my own stupidity/ignorance that caused the problems in the first place, then I have nobody else to blame.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

There are two kinds of RC boat racers. Those that have damaged or lost equipment, and those that will.

I have crashed 3 boats racing and burned up a few ESC's dialing in boats.

oh, yeah, I have had a few race crashes over the years. not a pretty sight, but it happens.
And from what you said, you had some pretty good "comments" from some folks about the subject.

All I can say to them is, YOUR TIME IS COMING,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, it WILL happen.

I destroyed a rigged insanity (as mentioned above) on her maiden run.

I also lost a boat to davey jones; never to be seen again.

Those thinking that avoiding the racing circuit will shield them from loss, let me say this...
Both my losses had nothing to do with racing and in both situations, mine was the only FE boat in the water.

            Amen Jim!

I've destroyed all kinds of boats. I've had more than one destroyed for me too. It happens. Boats dead. Nobody can see it upside down. I've encountered sea walls, boulders, sticks, fish, turtles, dead boats, stuffing a few at terminal velocity, burnt cells, burnt motors, burnt speedos, burnt shafts, burnt wire, burnt foam..........hahaha seems to be a recurring theme here with me.

I know it bothers people so I've stopped saying it but every time I put a boat in the water I tell myself that this may be the last time I see it. Well, in one piece at least. Some of my boats are pretty sweet too. If I'm going to push the envelope there is a risk that something will go wrong. How wrong seems to depend on how hard one wants to push.

I don't want to even think about the number of lost props and broken flex cables and wire drives.

How about this highly 'edited' vid..................cost me $300 in equipment, and $100 diver fee to get the bottom of the hull back, motor and hardware were re-used.

NEED PARALLEL CONNECTORS?? QUALITY 5.5MM, 8MM, 8 AND 10 AWG, GET THEM HERE: http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...est!&highlight=

OMG! I imagine there is some graveyard like the Bermuda triangle where all the beryllium is piled up. Once I get this pesky quantum physics worked out we can all have our props back.

Scale Driver Farts and blows out bottom of boat; almost goes to bottom

1/10 Scale heat at Winter Warmups VII. On first lap (37 seconds in) driver farts and blows out the bottom of the boat; boat ALMOST sank before heat was over. [ OK, the drive cable snapped & carved out the bottom of hull]. Priceless !

Never totalled or lost a boat though I have come close. Ripped the transoms off 2 boats and smoked a few esc's and motors, broken flex shafts etc. As mentioned earlier evrytime I send a boat out I think it might be the last time I see it.
Me and my son say on the ride home after a good day running "nothin' smokin', nothin' broken".

Ask this same question to the aircraft guys. When I bought a 30 class heli as I was walking out of the LHS the owner of the shop told me "don't waste your time on a fancy paint job on the canopy and don't get too attached to the heli. You will crash, maybe not right away but eventually"

I would love to have the dollar value in props & glow plugs at the bottom of our pond alone. Boats have been running there for over 30 years!
Kendt lost a beautiful prop and cable in there last run, last season.
That one I totaled was really totaled, it even broke the K&B lower unit, Old Dumas HotShot 3.5 wooden hull, the square nose version. All the others have made it back to shore one way or another. Same weekend a 1/8 hydro got hit by interference in the same area and pasted the same bank. Old AM stick radio days.
LOL this makes me feel much better. I knew I wasn't the only one! And you're all right it will happen eventually to everybody.
It was really just the get a new hobby comment that got under my skin.

Ya no point listening to meatheads who make those kind of remarks. It will eventually happen to them. But of course when it does it will be any ones fault but their own.
