Hi guys, My geico paint job is coming along well. The basecoat is down and dry and im ready to put on the second color. Was wondering what is a good tape to use so it wont bleed throygh or pull off the new paint?

Use vinyl masking tape for no bleed. You can buy at auto body supply shop. If your tape pulls off base coat, you've done it wrong, and should start over. But blue painter tape works ok. Has less adhesive

If it were me, id run down to the local paint store (automotive) and see what they say. Thats if you have something near by of course.

I have the blue painters tape, it works good. So the second coat is on and looks good but a bit brighter than expected. Hopefully buy the end of day i will have some pics up. This project was more than i thought it would be but hopefully the time i have put into it will pay off. this is my first boat paint job so it has some flaws i can see but hell you get better the more you do. I have a question though. So when your al done and have the clear on and dried for a couple of days what do you use to polish it out. I also had a guy tell me i shouldnt clear the boat, just incase i need to repair something down the road. What you guys think?

What paint have you used?.....I am not a clearcoat fan for the reason you stated...boats get scuffed/ damaged all the time and with a clearcoat finish are hard to repair.

Everyone is gonna give you different opinions. Just make sure your clearcoat in NOT lacquer.lacquer lifts enamel. Wheather you use it or don't use it shouldn't matter. Spray can clear is almost pointless. It will bring out your colors and make them stand out more, but it's not gonna really protect the paint from damage. Do only 3 coats per day max. Otherwise the bottom coats will never dry

Well the boat turned out great imo for being my first but for some reason it has a couple of spots that turned hazy after I put the clear on. So Now what do I do? do i have to wetsand down again and re hit it? Or can I just polish it out?
