    Mounting transom hardware?

This is going to sound like a total newb question and that is because it is a total newb question:

How does one know where exactly to best position hardware (rudder, strut, trim tabs, turn fins...) on a transom for the best performance?

    Thanks once again!

      Amen.

Your question is one of the key components to getting a drink from the Holy Grail of high performance boating

A great place to start is to read as many Build Threads on your particular type and size hull as you have time for....stick with threads posted by some of the old salts around here (good pictures are worth their weight in gold).

In doing so, you'll find some really good rules of thumb for Mono and Cat hull setup....as you read keep in mind the intended purpose of your boat (e.g. Sport, Oval Racing, Offshore, SAWS, etc.).

Once you get some idea of where to start, then post more specific questions around your intended build.

      Good luck

Sorry about that. It is a 51" Cobra from "for-a-buck" (Vern) on ebay.

I'm building this up with a 2028 and 10S as others have done.

Check this build thread out....one of my favorites and also one of the cleanest builds I've ever seen in person.

It's a larger Mono hull running on 8 and/or 10 cells. Tyler ran this boat in the last Legg Lake SAWS event and set the S Mono record (8 cell). Even though this boat is built for SAWS the flood tube design is excellent. It allows maximum adjustment of the strut position (up, down, left or right). I personally prefer a strut over stinger but that's just my preference as both will work very well.

Pay particular attention to his transom pics as they give you an excellent idea of where to place the HW.

FYI - I also run Struts without the flood tube and they work fine, or use a Stinger and follow the mfg suggestions on placement..

Your hull in combination with the CC 2028 on 10s should be a great setup.

Yep. That metalic glitter blue one. I bought mine before I even knew about his. His build thread is helping me out a lot, but I am still wondering how people decide EXACTLY where to place them for the very best performance. How do they come to those conclusions?

Do people just guess and/or try to copy RTRs hardware placement or what?
