Just getting in to RC boating. Would like some hull manufacturers for a newbie like me. I would like to start with a bare hull and set it up from scratch. I imagine a deep vee would be the likely starting point, but who knows. Also what is the most comon racing class?
    Thanks in advance,
    Roy

    Roy,

Welcome to OSE. A better question is to ask your local club in Tx what do they commonly race? They might have a P mono, P Limited mono or P limited sport hydro.

A great place to start is the 4 cell P Ltd mono class. The class uses a 34" or smaller V hull with a "limited" power system. The limited class is a good starting point as the power system can be purchased at a reasonable cost. Most people typically use one of the two Aquacraft motors available under the rules, a 180A or similar speed control and a decent set of a batteries. Speeds will be in the 45mph range. Steven who runs Offshore Electrics commonly stocks hulls and hardware suitable for the P mono classes.

Once you are familar with the hull and tuning you can step up to the P mono class where the power system increases output and speed accordingly. It usually requires a more heavy duty controller, motor and particularily batteries. Search on the forum for "P mono" or "Cyberstorm" for some build thread ideas.

I don't know about racing classes but other than that you need a little more explanation
how much are you willing to spend?
are you looking for outright speed, runtimes, or a combination of both?
how big do you want your hull to be?
the good old saying - fast, cheap, reliable, pick two
edit: we posted at the same time so negate any previously asked questions.
