    WidowMaker vs. SV27

Hey guys, I am new to FE boats and I was wondering what would be the better investment.

I can score the widowmaker for around $160 and its stock.

Or I can score an sv27 for around $200. I do not know if the sv is an R or not. Seller has not disclosed that info yet.

I will be running it on ponds, and salt water. I would like somthing that I can eventually mod to go a little quicker, and/or handle better. Ive been reading that the WM isnt that bad of a boat, but has trouble handling at times. And the sv27 seems to be an extremley popular boat, so it seems to be a better performer, and has alot more aftermarket/info out there for it.

and info would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks

I have never had either boat but from what I've heard the sv27 is quite good but prone to flips. And all the vids of the widowmaker it doesn't look like it handles too well. Does it have to be those boats? What about a pursuit? Would need some work but might handle a bit better. I'm
Sure someone who has these boats will give you some info on them.

SV is fun but there is not really any room for much more speed out of it, unless you like retrieving a flipped boat!
We have a number of SV's around here, I think they are a real blast to race against each other in stock form, I wouldn't sell mine, it's the old version but it just keeps going and going, nothing ever goes wrong with it. I've had or raced against every other spec motor in a SV, really makes no difference in speed if they are all propped correctly.
COmes down to who has the best setup for the water conditions and who drives the best that day.
No experience with the Widowmaker, don't seem to see much about them.
To be honest 200$ for a used SV is a bit steep unless it comes with some other stuff or includes shipping or is pretty much still new in the box. I paid about 140 or 150 for my old version, all original with a lipo-shield and in great condition, packed in the SV box with all the proper styrofoam for shipping. 39$ shipping from Florida to Canada. Think John paid 160 for one of his, not sure about the others, but they are all used as well.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

Stay away from the widowmaker, they are junk and are discontinued for a reason! Esc is prone to failure on them and the handling issues are awful. The sv27 is far superior in everyway. Take your time and trim it out right and it runs fine. I've only flipped mine a few times, I don't race though. It was running high 40s (mph) before I cracked the hull (long story, not the boats fault).

"score", from where? Both are fairly decent entry level boats, and are relatively inexpensive, so when you crash, (and you will), your not out a lot of money. Both boats can be upgraded, but not TOO much for neither does well over 40mph,
unless on glass. You mentioned salt water, most salt water I know of is rough water, and special care, and cleaning is a must. The WM *may* have a slight advantage in chop, though shorter, it is a deeper stepped vee, and may seal up better.
Do you have batteries? a charger? What is your budget? Like James said, and I concur, you will get far more miles, and many more hop-up options out of a Pursuit.

If you can save a little more $$ get a Pursuit............i've hit 59mph with mine, so it has high speed capability and it turns like its on rails....................an SV hops through turns. Widowmaker is a highline "toy" from what i've seen/heard.

Love my SV 27, it's faster than my driving skills. Only modifications are a new prop and I moved the esc out of the radio box cause I don't like a water cooling line running thru a radio box.
