Flex shaft and Collet advice Needed !!!

    Hello everybody,

I am getting ready to place a parts order for my 2 builds. Before I do, I would like some input please.

I am converting my Miss Budweiser to electric, It originally had a Dynamite .15 motor that turned 30 mph runs. the solid drive shaft is 8 1/2" x 1/8" (or 0.125) w/ 3/16" OD stuffing tube. The prop angle is non adjustable.

I was thinking of using this flex shaft, from here at OSE

    Product ID: oct-oc098L-24c
    Octura .098 cable system
    In Stock: 8

Octura .098 flex cable with 1/8" prop shaft, drive dog, bullet nut and teflon liner.
We offer these unassembled or assembled.
Requires: 3/16 OD K&S brass tubing for stuffing tube when used with the Teflon liner.

I am unsure of the length of this shaft, and the motor limit for it as well.

I may be able to put a coupler on the solid druve shaft, but I prefer flex shafts.
If this wont be a feasible route, I can glass in a new tube and go with a ul-1 tube, shaft, coupler and adjustable strut ?.

I already removed the aluminum motor mounting blocks, so I can use an adjustable motor mount ?.
Any suggestions would be appreciated and Thanks

I've converted a 46" gas hydro & 56" Gas Segad to electric. Both had 1/4" flex drives so that part was EZ. From your pics, it looks like the stock 1/8 straight drive shaft would be OK if you put a 1/8" U joint it, run a short 1/8 shaft to a clevis with 1/8" exit end on your motor. A better option is to remove the fiberglass shaft support on the bottom of the hull & install a 3/16 flex drive with a 3/16" strut or stinger drive. I prefer stingers. Adjustable prop shafts beat non-adjustable every time. JIM
