    Z-poxy

i have sanded down my rigger to a smooth surface and cleaned all the dust off. i then applied the z-poxy finishing resin with a small foam brush. after letting it dry for 24 Hrs. i took a look at it and it is rough like sand was in it. What am i doing wrong? i didnt use a heat gun with it but still not sure what went wrong. any help would be awsome

You should scrape the epoxy off the hull with a plastic card after rubbing it on, it's really just for filling and sealing, then spray it with clear coat of your choice, I like real automotive lacquer or 2 part urethane auto clear coat for the ultimate finish.
The both dry very hard are are designed for wet sanding and buffing for that super smooth glass like finish.
Give it a good sanding then clear coat it and it will be beautiful.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

I assume its bare wood you have applied the first coat of resin to, what you get is the resin soaking into the wood & raising the grain up. You get this when applying any first coat of any finish on wood. Sand it flat then apply another coat which will finish smoother. This is all assuming you havt had a reaction with somthing.

Never applied it to a model boat before, but I do know that this does happen to any wood product. I built a table and was lik WTF?!?!?! after I applied the first coat of sealer. Nothing some sand paper and elbow grease cant fit.

After applying epoxy, scrape off or lightly wipe off using paper towels as much resin as you can. It will make sanding easier. When cured, sand with 150 and recoat with epoxy. This coat will use far less resin than the first. When this cures, wet sand everything with 220. If you are painting, sand the entire boatwith 220. Now is the time for primer. Wet sand the primer with 400, and use spot putty to fill any imperfections. Wet sand with 400 and lay on a heavy coat of primer. Wet sand with 600-800 and paint.
