When you know what you do and have the right ESC you can run the 4035/800kv also on 12S. Used them in a twin-powered cat with X457's, was 100mph+

    Best regards,
    Manuel

Just out of curiousity Manuel how hot do the Scorpions get after a good lengthy run - I have kind of been curious about that becouse of the cooling limitations that come with the outrunners . I have never questioned there power just potential heat soak .

I have purchased 2 just for sh1ts and giggles to see how they go compared to the myriad of other engines I have of similar size and power rating, not sure how they would go with cooling cans being 39mm, might work with the leopard cans with a bigger O ring, should work with the bigger 40mm motor mounts like Fightercat sells to suit the castle 1520. One of my staff uses a lot of turnigy and leopard motors and has found they are very reliable at or even past their rated power, so this thing on 12s and 4kw should be a ripper for the money=)

Nice find Kyle - I love the price - this would make a great sport setup on 8 - 10cells for someone not interested in all out speed and on a budget

I was not driving the boat in summer when its really warm outside but more in spring or autumn and after longer runs the motors had temperatures of around 100°C at the "can" which would be too high for any other motor.

        Best regards,
        Manuel

Thats primarily my fault Jeff, I didn't want to post a dozen new threads about new motors I found and thought some people reading may also find the scorpion outrunner interesting.

The Scorpions are generally of good quality and make decent sport motors in boats, although some did use them for high-end racing....for a little while anyway. They do tend to run hot as expected, the good news is they will take higher temps than most inrunners will. Still, past ~125 amps their efficiency drops off fast and they generate lots of heat. Keep the amp draw in check and no problem. Mine all run fine with ending temps usually between 150-175*F but I keep the amp draw at or below 125. This is in boats, not in aircraft. There is a big difference in load and cooling between an aircraft and a closed boat hull.

                  Hey guys,

Some preliminary results, I ran my genesis today with the turnigy 3994 on 12s with a Fightercat 16s/200a speedy. My advise would be not to do the same lol. These motors are a torque monster and the boat was torque rolling like crazy and taking some fair time to get up on plane without flipping it on it's lid=P I tried a s&b and detongued X447, top speed without much room to wind it up was around 64mph, temps on motor, batts and speedy/caps were ridiculous, 90degF was the highest of anything after half the first set of packs. Then just a s&b 645 was tried to try and remove a little leverage to help with torque roll. After the rest of the packs the temps were still 90degF or so. As there was a mistake on some props I ordered from 50-57mm that came with a 1/4" bore for some strange reason the next highest prop load I had while not being a "top speed" style prop was a X450/3. After another 10 passes or so and half a set of packs temps were all still under 100F, but the boat was almost uncontrollable. Had a big accident which dislodged just about everything in the boat, cracked the deck, pulled the motor wires out of the speedy but as it landed back on it's bottom, we tried to see if we could drive it in and nothing so went out and go it. Bad idea as the motor wire had arced the bullets trying to jump the gap and now doesn't arm.

Not overly stressed about stuffing the hull, it was just a cheap genesis bare hull, but the speedy was a bummer. I would highly advise anyone considering this motor to put it in a big hull, based on my temps today on 12s I reckon it will take a 52-57mm prop and hit 75-80mph, it went 68mph in mine at 10lb with about 1-1.5 seconds of full throttle=P

                          Hey Kyle,
That is some good info on that monster motor,
And sorry to hear about your crash and esc that sucks,
But always could be worse, Like at the bottom of the lake.
I ran my 36"Shockwave yesterday and bounced off a underwater tree stump at 25 mph,
Got lucky and just caught the port side some and still could drive it in.
I needed to do body work on it any how and paint, Better now than after it was painted.

Good luck with the testing man.
