    IMPBA LSO Rules Question

This isn't meant to stir the pot. I have been away from racing for a bit and I remember this being a topic of contention. I am just building a boat and want to make sure I have the current rules right and see if any changes were coming.

    LSO: According to 2007 Rules

This is a non-records class and falls into the P voltage rating with all cells
wired in series, no paralleling of packs or cells. The intent of this event is
to stimulate Offshore Racing as sponsored by the American Power Boat
    Association (A.P.B.A)

    Boat Specifications
    1. Boat must be inboard powered.
    2. Boat will be painted/coloured in the sprit of racing and must include
sponsor's name, logo, and/or a racing number affixed to hull (a local,
national, or fictitious sponsor name is acceptable).
    3. Boat must have driver and crew, and/or simulated enclosed cockpit.
    4. Mono’s, Stepped Mono’s and Cats will be allowed.
    5. Motor Specifications are the same as Limited Sport Hydro

I assume the max 34" rules applies since its a P class.

With regard to the P voltage rating and not paralleling. So that means no mAh limitations whatsoever? I can remember this was a point of contention and a half a few years back. I can run two 8000 mAh 2s1p packs in series, but not two 4000 mAh 4s1p packs in parallel?

Is this rule set under review, or can I assume this will be in stone.

I mainly ask because this would be one of the few new boats I have that might actually require some new lipos.

The latest FE rules are dated March '09 and are in the FE section of the IMPBA Forum. The 09' rules are the same as you stated. You are correct and I havent heard of any plans to change them. Keep in mind the LSO and LSH boats are limited to 700 sized bushed motors.

Now taking this into cosideration, these rules apply to IMPBA National events. Clubs and district are free to run what ever classes suit the membership. So before you build, decide where you're going to run, contact that club or district and see what they are running.

Maybe what i am thinking off is P-Spec Offshore ... using the aquacraft/proboat brushless options. Or am I even more confused and in NAMBA territory with this :)

There are no national P-spec rules in the IMPBA yet. Districts that run P-Spec have their own rules and most are close but differ a little.

Gotcha ... so that hasn't changed in two years! Thanks for the clarification.

As an IMPBA member, I'll continue to ask the same question over and over until someone can give me an answer that actually makes sense:
If the latest rules are from 09...why can't the official rule book on the IMPBA main page be updated....or is 2.5 years not enough time?

                I have no idea Doby.

Have you ever asked the current National FE Director Mr. Thomas?
