How far in the collet should the flex shaft sit?

I am putting a mono(Impulse31) together and I have a upgraded flex cable .150 and a Octura Flex Hex 5mm to to .150. How far into the coupler should the flex shaft go? It seems real tight getting it in there

All the way until it stops. That is until it conacts the motor shaft. If it wont go all the way, you have alignment issues. The flex should slip right in beginning at the stinger/strut all the way to the motor.

After i cut the flex shaft i round the edge off with a grinder if everything is in Alignment it should slide right in no problem. make sure the collet nut is all the way loose

This flex shaft is cut to fit from ose but is it ok to still cut off maybe 1/4"? This is trying to get flex shaft into coupler even when I have both in my hands it is very tight fit and I can't get it but maybe half way in. I will try a little bit of light grinding and see what happens. Thank you!

Functionally, it is only necessary for the cable to enter the last 1/2" of the flexhex - that is the only portion which grips the cable (actually it is even a bit less). Going into the coupler further is not a bad thing, just unnecessary. That said, most of mine are cut to allow them to bottom out on the end of the motor shaft - as long as this allows for enough gap between the drive dog and the strut.

If you have trouble pushing the cable into the coupler, it is either due to the coupler ID being slightly undersized, or a burr/swelling on the cable end. Usually camfering the end of the cable (and sometimes a light sanding on the diameter) will allow the cable to enter.
