New Stock HK Genesis Motor now Shipping

    Hi all...
First post here, but I thought some may like to know that the HK Genesis's are now shipping with a slightly different stock configuration and build compared to the old...

    Here are the highlevel changes:
    • New Motor - Still a 3674-2075kvbut it is now black.... Fiego???
    • New Water jacket with 90deg connectors???
    • New Full Length Motor Mount with the ESC and servo mounts integrated... all fiberglass as well... no more wood
    • Battery Tray Mounts are still wood

BTW... the motor heatsink and fan are my own additions....

    Here are some pics...

Looks good. But I hope they affixed all that fiberglass to the hull a bit better than the motor mount on the old ones. I pulled on it and it ripped right off. Also, the stuffing tube fell off when I removed the motor and rudder. It still looks to have very little epoxy around it. I would rip everything out and use some 2 part epoxy to put it back in. Looks good though. Did it also come with the fan?

Will have to see what the motor can do.... and that wont come till May next year as I live in canada...
I am also going to thermal paste the heatsink on there as well for improved cooling...

Anyone else water and air cooling their cat?

Honestly, I wouldn't air cool anything in a boat because you just spread the heat around to all other components. That's the only thing I hated about the outrunner in my Geico. It heat soaked everything compared to when I ran a 1512 of the same KV with a cooling jacket.

            Just my $.2

Just an FYI - the HK versions of these boats are slapped together as fast and as low cost as possible.

When you get one, re-epoxy everything and seal the stuffing tube. It's only held in there with hard fiberglass resin, which doesn't stick to the tube.

They are assembled, but consider them simply drilled and pre-hung so to speak. Also, a quick coat of thinned epoxy will prevent the fiberglass and wood from separating from moisture.

The air cool on the can is a joke. It's cooling the outside of the cooling can. I can't imagine it having much if any effect on the motor.

              Info on outrunners in sealed electric hulls;
              - Filling the cabin with heat from the outrunner can occur, but most hulls have enough airspace to keep that temp lower than 100f which is very helpful cooling as convection is still the most efficient cooling method. The air will also naturally cool when moved, so adding a small fan in the hull helps reduce this. I sometimes add a 50mm 14 CFM fan near the motor and it keeps things pretty well balanced. Now if the outrunner is worked hard and overheating, it'll cause issues as well. Picking the right size motor for efficiency and lowest heat produced is helpful.

Ultimately it comes down to preference though. =)

              Hope this helps.

                  Second on the air cooling.
I would suggest to save the little bit of power to finish the race with lipos above LVC level...
Great boat.... Corners well at high speed... Keeper IMO...
                  Cheers

I musta got lucky, cause my genesis had some serious tumbles now and again and not one thing came loose, cracked, shifted or anything... well accept the battery trays. But I wanted to move them anyway. I just finsihed a build for Gimp. Fightercat Daytona (same hull as the genesis). I owned the hull for quite a while and never built it. Chris bought it and I put it together for him. They may not be the best of race boats, but they sure do look incredible. I may have to get another one just to have it

Got my genesis today and sure enough it had the new motor, the new water jacket looks the same as the leopard ones! It has already been replaced with a 4074 2000kv motor though. Might try the stock genesis motor on my stiletto, see if I can get a few more mph out of her. Are people cooling the motor mount or just running the cooling hoses through the esc and motor?
