Darin this the boat that I got from your friend ... you raced against it ! My intentions are to run a 2s saddlepack! Does this info change opinions on what esc to use?

Eod do you race? If not you don't need a Neu. Here's an idea sell the Neu and buy a sport setup. I bet you will have money left over

            Eodman,

Is this that NoStep 2 that Andy Shanks sold?? If so, that's one heck of a fast boat... a 1515 1D and a B125 on 2S2P should work just fine in that.... I think he used an ABC 42x55 prop or maybe a 437/3 or something in that range ought to work well...

Refresh my memory on which boat it is and we can give you a more definate answer... but for comparisons sake... I have been running that motor/ESC combo in my 26" DH Mono on 2S2P for all of last season and on 8-cells for the prior season and it's held up just fine... Prop for 2S2P was an modified ABC 40x52/3 or a modified X437/3, and speeds were in the 43+mph range for heat racing...

ok, i was wrong about his intended cell count but...

no matter how you slice it, the 1515 1D is one of Neu's competition series 200 max amp motors...

it may be fine with a Hydra 120 but it leaves no headroom for set-up errors, run it wet one time...

if you aren't racing why risk running a full out 1D competition motor...

sport hydro's pack air, IMO an N-2 Sport is where the risk might be acceptable not in a sport mono...

it's just a difference of opinion is all... no biggie

The common answer here seems to be "Maybe"... it'll work, and has... but you'd be best served if you can get the bigger ESC now and save yourself the worry and potential risks... A Hydra 240 or ETTI 200 or something like that might be worth the investment...

And if it were me, I would set the timing to LOW with the Castle controls. I've never used the other controls mentioned. BTW I would take a B125 over a Hydra 120 in a heartbeat.

                  Good luck,

Good Point Doug... Castle actually states that on their website as well... All of my D-Wind motors use "LOW" for the timing setting...

And I still have 4 B125 ESCs in my stable... So I'm good to go for awhile...

OK to answer the question NO we don't race at this point! We plan on attending Tom's 1st annual boat meet in south Jersey in April!

Yes Darin I believe it is the Mono from Andy ... grey hull with flames on the bow & lettered Jolly!

Now if we don't race then perhaps we will sell the NEU and go for a sport setup... but in the mean time which ESC should I use!

Who makes the B125 & is the hydra 240 overkill for a sport setup!

I don't want to sell the NEU only to find out my son really enjoys competing and then have to go and buy a new NEU!

But at the same time I don't want this boat to just sit in the garage!

                        Castle Creations makes the B125

having headroom [more control than you need] in a set-up is not a bad thing, sport or otherwise, it gives you options for the future...

the Hydra 240 is one such control [room to grow] if you plan an staying with 2s and 4s set-ups...

if you think you might evolve into higher cell count boats [6s] in the future look into the HV controls available now and in the near future like the Castle HV series in the works...

bottomline... IMO the only control that is not worth the money is one that is marginal from square one...

                          FYI
A couple of the guys are racing water cooled 6Ls in DF 25.5" monos on 2s2p with 537s and Hydra 120s. All temps after1 mile races are under 100'F, the boats are fast and still driveable. IMO a 7L would be a good choice for a sport setup also.

                          Hope this helps,
                          Doug
