    OSE Shipping Price?

I was looking at the clearance Keda motors that looks like a great deal at $46 a pop.

I can't figure out how OSE is calculating $17+ shipping costs for 2 of these motors and 2 cooling jackets via USPS to Minnesota. $18+ for UPS.

It's already surprising to find out that only one cooling jacket fits these motors & that runs $22.50 each.

Brings 2 of these motors with cooling jackets to $154.41 shipped.

While I'm sure this is a good deal, the shipping charges really take a chunk out of the bargain. Is there any way that a customer can get smaller items like these packaged in a $8 Priority flat rate box or something? I'm certain they'd fit.

Also, if OSE is trying to get rid of the Keda motors, why aren't the cooling jackets (that only fit those same Keda motors) not also discounted? Just wondering.

If there is only one cooling jacket that fits then I guess whoever makes that jacket can set a price...

The shipping issue sounds a bit odd. I dont think Steven is setup with flat rate but just regular Priority. Did you check the parcel post rate?

Totally know what you mean on the jacket. And no big deal, it's not overpriced compared to others or anything. Just thinking outloud I guess. If the jackets can't be used with anything else, then a seller might want to give more incentive to buy them all with the motors. But then again, if the buyer knows no other jackets fit, then maybe we'll all just buy them at full price out of need anyhow... So OSE wouldn't have any reason to provide that incentive for customers to buy both items because we'll do it anyway.

Only options on the OSE checkout page for me are USPS or UPS. I don't even know if the "USPS" option is parcel, first class, or priority. it doesn't specify.

If there's any other options that you can somehow get to on the checkout page, that'd be great. - I looked around & definitely only saw the 2 options. If there's more, someone please help me figure it out.

As I recall when shopping for a few small parts in the past though, I was never able to get a shipping rate under $11.XX, even for just some water inlets/outlets and some cooling tubing. I ended up ordering at Kintec for only $6 shipping on up to 10 items because of this - and made sure to load up a full 10 items too.

the site isnt smart enough to know what will and will not fit in a flat rate size box, the shipping price is based off of weight. These motors will not fit in a small flat rate box. And thats the reason why I dont add a flat rate box option. If I did, people would pick a flat rate box to ship a 3 pound boat hull and it would cause delays in shipping. If someone ordered I try to put them in the correct box and refund shipping costs when possible.

A medium flat rate box is $10.95, we charge $3.95 handling fee. What does $3.95 get you. It covers the insurance to the door. It covers us making sure we get the items out as quick as possible, normally the same or next business day. It also covers OSE seeing that people get the right items. so far this year we have shipped over 60,000 individual items(not orders), we have have 14 mistakes in shipping including items that the manufacturer marked wrong(Like an octura x442 that had a x438 in the package).

As for not seeing options, the first page will give show you a cost that says, "estimate". When you get deeper into the checkout, you will see options like this.
First-Class Mail, NO insurance. Typical delivery time 7-12 business (days) $5.83
Priority Mail, Insurance included to mail box. Typical delivery time 3 to 5 business (days) $9.05

Thats a copy of what a water outlet would cost. Not sure why you get an $11.00 price.

Thank you very much for all the helpful information. I wasn't saying that I think you should provide flat rate box options for us, I'm sorry if it sounded that way. I was merely pointing out that even a flat rate box would be much cheaper than the options I was first provided. (flat rate boxes tend to be more expensive for shipping in my experience unless you're weighing it down quite a bit with products).

When I got the $11+ price for the small items, it must have been on the first "estimated" checkout page. That immediately turned me off to continuing the checkout process, as it nearly had again this time. Now that I know the rates may be lower, I'll continue further and see what the other options tell me now.

It might be helpful for some customers if you are able to post some kind of notice that explains this a little bit on the main shopping cart/checkout page. You lost one sale to me because I didn't know I had to continue the checkout process to get a more accurate shipping rate. I can only imagine that others have been turned away because of this too.

Again, thank you very much. I hope I'm just a generally more confused shopper than most! I wish you all the luck with your continued business in this hobby, I probably wouldn't even be in it if it weren't for you and this site. Thank you, really.

I understand Jeff and just trying to help clarify.

Below is a checkout of something small.

Details Name Unit Price Quantity Total Select
            Threaded Water Inlet/Outlet $4.49 $4.49
            Sub Total: $4.49 Delete
Or compare rates with UPS Rates
            Shipping Estimate Using USPS Rates
            $5.83

Maybe there was something in the cart that was heavy. If that was the case, it wouldn't show a first class estimate.

I went further and still only have 2 options, one has atleast dropped a few dollars though:

              1. Priority Mail, Insurance included to mail box. Typical delivery time 3 to 5 business (days) $17.45
              or
              2. UPS Ground. Includes Tracking, Signature & Insurance. Typical delivery time, 3-5 Business Days $15.83

Is there really no cheaper shipping for 2 Keda 2364kv motors and 2 of the cooling jackets to fit them? Your explanation of a Priority medium flat rate box plus handling fees is even less at $14.90. I know they're heavy, but seems like maybe there's still something off in your shipping quotes. $15.83 is a little bit better atleast, if I choose to purchase them I suppose that'll have to work.

I appreciate it. The Keda motors are weighing it down, of course.

Shipping by any method is a crap shoot for the seller, except the flat rate boxes. We have set our shipping rates based on the dollar amount of the order. It is not unusual for us to lose money on shipping sometimes and coming out $1 or so ahead at other times. We don't add a handling fee of any kind. I know it seems unreasonable sometimes to the buyer to pay $7 shipping (our lowest shipping charge) for a $5 item. BUT, we send everything priority mail insured. $7 is an average cost. From us on the east coast to someone on the west coast can cost more than $7 while closer to us it might be $6.

No honest business will try to make money on shipping but at the same time it doesn't want to lose money either. Steven at OSE s included in that equation. His service is the best and his rapid handling and shipping of all orders is commendable. When I order from OSE I know I'm going to get it quickly and in good shape!

                    Thanks Steven.

Jeffrey, your questions make no sense, if you were in business you would undesrstand the perils of shipping quotes without a visit to the service and receiving the real deal.

Doug I understand. With all the free shipping or low shipping out there, he has a right to ask. I do not begrudge him for that.

Steven, there is no such thing as free shipping, it is built into the price of the item, but your company is outstanding for stating the facts of shipping costs and out the door the next day

For what its worth, I used a Leopard cooling sleve on my Turnigy 4082 motor which "should be" exactly the same diameter as the Keda motors. You can use the 40x50 cooling sleeve which is only $15

This was my order and I thank you very much for sending me the correct prop, even though I started working on it before I noticed it was the wrong one. I'm sure anyone else would of told me I was SOL because I had already opened the package and started working on the prop. This is why I will continue to order from OSE when ever necessary. I know the mistake was not on your end, but rather someone at Octura put the wrong prop in the bag marked "X442". Mistakes happen and it's very assuring to know that OSE goes out of their way to make every order right.
