best boat for a noob?

Howdy ecoovert, Sorry no vids of the MG. Got my speeds from a GPS. If setup right the MG is OK in the 50's but the 60's is the limit unless you put a wing up front. After multi passes in the 60's w/ only 1 flip I decided to change hulls and put the MG back to stock and give it to my kid. My MG was running a leo 4082 2200kv on 5s w/ a modded. t180. also a x645 which I tweaked. 50's it runs flat but 60's she wants to fly. And when she flies the hatch does explode. The original hatch is very thin. I bought a new one from OSE and it is twice as thick. I got a older version MG with the flexshaft w/ the wrong twist and a thinner hatch. I'm going to post a boat build and vids. today. A boat build for the poor man. 70 mph boat for $550 w/o radio. Happy boating.

You are right the canopy does explode when you flip but with the setup you have above on 6s at full throttle mine doesn't flip. Could it be that you've been running yours in very choppy water? If you look at the vid I posted I was using a Nemesis Gold 4082 2200kv. motor on 6s using an x645 prop. If you watch the vid to the end just before the esc went into studder bump I was only starting to give it full throttle. After replacing the lipos on that day I had gained enough confidence to go full throttle. If you look at the water in the vid there wasn't much chop but the wind was blowing about 8 to 10 mph. whigh is enough to produce moderate chop. Much more that and frankly I'd probably be flying one of my kites rather than driving my boats. The boat wull do 40 or so stock with a metal prop. Put over 4 times the power into it, turn a much higher pitch prop at over twice the rpm. the boat's got to be pushing 80 at wide open throttle. If I could fit a larger motor into it or find a higher pitch prop to make the boat even faster I'm sure it would handle just fine.

As to the Motley Crew I never had one so I can't comment on that specific hull but I have gone through 3 SV 27 hulls and 2 UL-1 hulls and all of them began to spider crack All with pretty much stock setups. One of my SV 27s fliped over and one lipo came lose and struck the hull so I will give you that one but what about the rest. I don't know, maybe Aquacraft learned something before they designed the Motley Crew hull.
