should have a noobs corner section here......

    so i got a hypro mono 32", a 2500kv motor (1/8 truck), a swordfish 120 ( it should've come
with a sticker than a cute disc) and planning to run on 4s2p. prop size available are 40-45.
    waiting for the collet.
what do you guys think of this set-up? what speed am i expecting? if it planes, i'm good.
    thanks. total noob here.

I agree with your suggestion about having a "Noobs Corner". A popular heli forum has one and is quite active. For those that encourage and help newcomers, this would be an easy way to get in touch and offer their suggestions and advice. Great idea

As far as your setup goes, the 2500 KV motor's a tad high in KV to run on 4S2P so start small ( a 440 is a good starting point). Start with short (@ 1 min) runs & check temps. Once you get your trim established by adjusting strut & tab angle & CG, and the boat runs loose and free, you can begin to run longer & experiment with bigger props. Should run in high forties easily. Know that the 120A SC is marginal at best with what you have so be carefull with prop size.

A suggestion : when asking questions, accompanying them with pictures is a good idea.

    Welcome aboard & enjoy !

      thanks PC.
adjusting it to 3s2p would give me a safe zone re: temps. or lower to 1500kv motor?
      CG? how do i do that? 60-40%? 65-35? that's <% from aft.
and i'm a helifreak forum member. will take pics of it.
      thanks again.

The Hypro mono, assuming it's the 32" version, is a varient of the DF Cyberstorm. A popular 4S2P motor for that hull is the 4074 size 2200KV motor. Speeds low-mid fifties. Might consider selling 2500KV motor here in the swap shop; lots of SAW - pass members might be interested. The Leopard & other 4074/2200 (+/-) KV motors are easily acquired here & everywhere. Again, the 120A speedy will need carefull monitoring.

My Cyberstorm in heat race trim has the CG at right around 8.5" to 9" from the back.

Tried helis; found thumbs and brain were improperly connected !

One of the beauties of this FE hobby and especially on this ose forum is that we share ideas and are excited by new comers. There is great satisfaction in advising a noob into a reasonable set up that has a high probability of success. Ideally seasoned vets keep recommendations to experienced oriented and if that "vet" is a racer, they are more likely to do such.

You will be surprised at how much GOOD feedback you will get here! That said, until you get a feel for who is giving good advice, multiple opinions is a good idea.

Yes, and welcome to the party!

Ps, maybe you have had bad luck? Your username could be suspect...

                      so another question.
how far does the collet be from the end of the brass tubing?
i just pasted my motor mounts in the way i would like it, but noticed some pics have it as close as an inch. mine is at least 2.5-3.0 inches.
would this be just fine with that length of flex cable exposed?
                      thanks again.

Sorry, but you're asking for trouble. Cable will develop "whip" , will break and eat the end of the stuffing tube (or worse). If your motor mount isn't able to be moved, replace the stuffing tube with a longer one. Brass tubing is inexpensive, & removing the old one can be accomplished with some heat where it's glued in and a small tap hammer to break it loose applied to one end in the direction it's mounted. I usually only have 1/2" - 3/4"or so space between the stuffing tube and collet.

Welcome to the wonderful world of "modding"

Listen to the 1/10 scale "fart" at 38 seconds. Cable whipped, broke, and sawed through the boat bottom. Boat nearly was lost when it almost sank to the bottom
