Sixteen New FE Records Set At L.A. SAWS

Here's the (unofficial) results from Friday, Saturday, and Sunday- apologies if I got anything mixed up, BUT :

    Jay Turner

    P-Offshore - 82.9x mph
    Q Offshore - 87.84 mph

    Tyler Garrard -

    S-Mono - 76.xx mph

    Darin Jordan -

    M-2 Hydro -59.968 mph [ 61.3 mph fast pass]
    Crackerbox - 28.132 mph
    N-1 Mono - 38.716 mph [39.5 mph 1-way]

    Boyd Marshall -

    T-Offshore - 94.261 mph []
    S-Offshore - 82.898 mph
    P-Mono - 73.218 mph

    Wilmer Oxidean -

    N-1 Hydro - 54.xxx mph

    Brian Buass -

    P-Ltd Offshore - 62.xxx mph
    P-Ltd Hydro - 83.830 mph
    P-Ltd Sport Hydro - 64.322 mph
    P-Ltd Mono - 64.433 mph
    P-Ltd OPC - 60.080 mph
P OPC 78.288 mph [one way]
    P-Hydro - FAST PASS - 99.558 MPH !!!!!

Last but also least, I had a fast pass of 63.114 mph in P-Ltd Offshore which was above Brian's record of 62.xxx mph but kept getting airborne on the uphill run. Of course the prop Brian let me use was the magic bullett but the uphill winds got me every time.

Fantastic company, great timing by the Seismic Amigos, and Kim's lunches were out of this world.

What a treat to run with such FE royalty. Congrat's to everyone for SHREDDING the previous numbers

GREAT to spend the weekend at the lake with ya, Tony... You should have stayed for "Witching Hour" though... running in near dark on smooth water proved fruitful... I managed to get one more... M2-Mono @ 41.119 mph!

This was a really fun event. Thanks to all that worked so hard to put it on for us!

Brian and I are getting ready to get into the car for the 17 hour trek home. See you on the flip-side...

Where can we get the info on the boats that hold these records. I would love to know the mfg of the boat, the motor-esc combo and batteries that they used. Thanks Dave

                  The Morning After Race Hangover

Wow. Wow ! For those that weren't there, and for those that are planning to give it a try ; Some random observations :

This event, or any race event for that matter, starts long before the actual race. Planning, building, testing, and most preciously-the anticipation of reuniting with old friends is simply an amazing and heartwarming experience.

SAWS begin before sun-up ( and end after dark) - the best water is early in the morning and late in the day. Endurance is a must. So is nutrition. Kim Grim wins the award for " Best Amazing Lakeside Catering". Her meals were beyond delicious and bountifull.

Setting up, running and maintaining the timing equipment is a grueling task. Mark Grim and the Amigos did this essential and demanding task non-stop with few hitches while also getting their own runs in. A big THANK YOU there, guys.

The camaradery in the pits is a joy to experience. Parts are passed back and forth and shared, power is loaned, and help is always available regardless of the sacrifice. Special "props" (intentional pun) goes to Brian for loaning me his magic P-Ltd Offshore record-setting prop so I could surpass his record. A true sportsman.

Observing the new, first-time entries gives a special boost to the ongoing nature of these races. Jim Marcum gave it his all as a first-timer and his Segad did break the old record for a spell. His Geico found the lone Legg turtle (someone had to do it; thanks Jim) and was an unfortunate write-off.

Up-and-comer Boyd put on a great show with his offshore Cats and stormin' mono with the able assistance of Mark F. as crew chief. Rock & Roll, Bro !

Darin and Wilmer had the one & two cell classes in hot contention and showed great technical mastery of these high precision masterpieces, proving tiny tweaks make a big difference. Way to go, Guys !

Tyler boldly had his big guns rolling hard and his S-Mono showed what mega-horsepower does to the H20, roostertail-wise.

Jay was a study in concentration. One boat; two records. Watching him sit in the pits focused on his laptop, calculating..calculating was a study in excellence and his runs were poetry in motion.

And Brian ! What can I say ? Mindblowing. His P-Ltd rigs were basically in heat-race trim but just rocked ! And his equipment wasn't even hot. Prop and setup mastery at it's best. Leaving a mere 0.442 mph on the table behind 100.000 mph in P-Hydro. I know it won't be long before that fraction of a mph will be overcome. The other records he set were just over the top. SAWeeeet, Papa !!!

In my morning-after frazzled state I'm probably forgetting to acknowledge people and things. It'll take days to catch up to the life I left behind several days ago. My car sits unpacked in the carport, my watch and camera both broke at the lake need replacing, pictures and videos need sorting and posting, and the many day-to-day chores left undone beckon.

Safe travels home my Brothers and can't wait to do it again.

                  Love and Respect,

                  Tony

And a parting highlight shot :

Nothing, absolutely nothing compares to the feeling a struggling racer like myself experiences when Brian beckons you over to his pit table, opens up his magic prop box, and with his broad, "knowing" smile and trademark twinkle in the eye hands you a razor sharp two-blade and says with a sly wink: GIVE THIS A TRY, Brother; You'll like it ! Yeah Buddy !!!

Thanks for the write up Tony.

I just took a quick look at the data off the Schulze from the S mono record run:

For my 8S2P set-up I was pulling 420-470A through the lights with a battery voltage pulling down to 27.5V with RPM just over 24k. A quick calc shows 450Ax27.5V=12, 375W! or 16.6hp. Drive shaft torture to the fullest.
