Found this Cool Hydro on the Bay and need advice for Electric Conversion.

We have a lake in town that I can't run all my gas boats on so I'm going to build a electric boat. This boat is 36 inches long and weights 3.5 lbs dry. Any Ideas or anyone reconize the hull brand? My guess is it was a nitro boat. What size motor should I get to make this thing scoot along.100_0677.jpg100_0678.jpg100_0682.jpg100_0679.jpg Thanks

Jay, That is one bad Miss Alamo !!!! If I can get mine to run close to that I will be Nuts!! I need everything for this boat and don't have a clue where to find it. This will be my first FE boat. I have lots of gas hardware but am afraid it might be too large? The castle motors are way out of my budget so I'm clueless to what would be next in line I could afford. How long is your rudder and where do I find a turn fin for this boat? (Is my turn fin bracket the same as yours ? 4 holes? ) I've looked at Leopard and Talon motors but don't have a clue what all the numbers mean. I noticed you spaced out the turn fin on Miss Alamo. My bracket on my boat does not line up with the center line of the boat so If I did what you did I could make one spacer longer to get the fin lined up with the center line of the boat. ...................I'm lost. I have watched your video about 10 times and still get goosebumps watching that everytime........................ man that's a bad boat.

I used SpeedMaster .40-sized hardware on the Miss Alamo and 3/16" flex cable, purchased from either OSE or direct from SpeedMaster. Actually much of the build is very similar to a nitro build, same parts. Honestly I don't remember where I got the turn fin and bracket, they were in my parts box. I think they may be from the Virginia Craftsman. The spacers are easy to make and can easily correct bad fin alignment (don't tell anyone, it's a secret!). I used Williams motor mounts from Southriverrc.

As for the motor, a Leopard won't run like a Neu but it should still give very decent speed. I wouldn't spend less than what a Leopard costs, you do get what you pay for. The Chinese knockoffs run a lot hotter than Neus or Castles. I'd try a Leopard 4082/1250 Kv motor and at least a 200 amp controller. Here are some links, good luck!
