found my old boat need advice

Found my old mrp tunnel hull, found it in a box in the attic, it's been there for years, I forgot I even had it, was thinking of bringing the old girl back to life. All the old radio gear and motor is gone, it used to run a brushed 540 motor (the ones with internal brushes) what I was wondering is this, I have a castle side winder brushless system, for 1/18th scale cars it has a cm20 6800 kv motor and the esc to go with it, do you think it will power the boat? boat is really lightweight, I would have to make up a motor mount, and few other bits, probably water cool motor and esc. Whats your thoughts? will it work? don't want to really spend money on a brushed motor and esc, but it would be nice to get the old girl going again

I still have mine gathering dust! The Kv of that motor is way too high, even on 2S it will burn up your electronics. You could run it on a BL system, 2S would work if you used a motor with a Kv between 3500 and 3800. The hull is kinda flimsy and won't handle much speed - well, it won't handle an abrupt stop from high speed. Mine worked great between 25 and 35 mph.

Throw a Feigao 540s in it.........should be direct drop in and they are offered with 1/8" shaft as well if thats what the stock coupler is. The only one Steven has in stock here on OSE that would work is the 5mm shaft 2958kv motor.............you could run it on 3s with a 60a speedo.

Here are some 1/8" shaft motors i found that would do well in smaller boats with an added cooling jacket......good price too

        Hi Griff ,

Your boat looks like it is in great condition , i'd be keeping it in original spec , & holding on to it as is a nice piece that belongs in a R/C Boating museum or at least cherished by you , it would be more appealing sitting on a display shelf then trying to break its back by going " BL Power " . Also , i am sure in the near future , collecting such fine boats as yours , will become a popular facet of our hobby ....

All the best in F/E R/C Boating ,
