Wanted to build a cat for a while now, FighterCat just got a few hulls in stock so i pulled the trigger!! It's gonna be a winter project, i have not ordered any hardware for it yet. This will be a single motor set-up which brings me to some questions. What is the better set-up for the Daytona/Genesis hull, inline strut and rudder, or an offset rudder? Also, i will probably go with a T180 ESC but i'm going to be looking for a very mild set-up, i have no idea what motor KV to get. I plan on using 7 cell NIMH's when i run up to the lake house, and probably 4S (maybe 5 or 6S too??) lipo's at my buddies pond, is there any possible set-up that will be relaible either way? When i'm at the lake i don't need any more than 30-35 MPH, yes i know that is far from this hulls potential but like i said i now have access to nice glass smooth pond as well so mid 40's to 50mph is good too. That's my goal, basically i want the best of both worlds, is that possible? I am extremely excited to get this hull, i think it's one the best looking scale cats on the market! I'll have alot more questions once i start putting it all together!!
Ordered a FighterCat 37" Daytona Cat!! Set-up??

My feelings about offset vs inline, unless your racing, it doesnt really matter. I ran a Genesis for a few months at the local club w/ the inline set up, it wasnt horrible. I just modded a inline strudder (same one Ben caries) to an offset on my DF cat. I just finished it 3 min ago and came on to update the link, but this caught my eye first as I just built a Shocker cat to test and review for Ben. Its in the build thread, Fighter cat 950 build. I offset the rudder on the DF because its got all kinds of nasty habits and Im hoping the offset settle it down a bit.
As for the Shocker hull, Im still making adjustments and hope to get it back out soon now that the lakes around here have calmed down. Biggest thing Im noticing so far is it slides around a lot. Almost like it needs a deeper rudder. Id perhaps follow my thread before you order hardware. I have a feeling a deeper rudder will end up on it and solve some problems. Currently it is set up 'offset" using the V-bracket and 115 rudder Ben carries.
Motor, you could go something like a 4074 1500ish KV. 4S will get you to your 40 mark on lipos, Id guess low 30s on Nimh? 5S would be faster and 6 would be flyin. Id have to guess, mid/ upper 50s on 6S? maybe more depending on your temps and prop selection?
Hull itself id bad a$$. Super clean lay up. very tidy. I have the only gel coated boat he got. All the rest are CF, at least that was his original plan, hadnt looked on his site at hulls in a week or so.....
Again, keep an eye on my Fightercat 950 thread. Everything you will want to know will be in there for setting it up. If its not, just ask.

Excellent reply, thanks tiqueman!! I was reading a little bit on the MG forum that offset rudder seemed to calm down the hop for that particular boat. I've watched a few videos of the Genesis and it doesn't look like that hull has much issue with hopping. The in line strudder looks cool, but i want good hadling too. Anyways, as far as power, i hope to be able to run the NIMH's with out over working and killing them, the NIMH's are still my best bet when i'm running on lake water. I don't want to run into the same problems everybody was having with the Traxxas Spartan. I'm not sure if i will ever get to the 6S level or not, probably stick to 4S tops, but knowing i CAN go up to 6S if i want would be cool! I just read thru your FighterCat thread in the build section, that's a wicked boat! Whats the difference between that hull and the Daytona?Comment

Tiqueman is building me a Daytona. I'm running 4s, 2200kV 4074 Leopard, and a Seaking 180. Hoping to run in the 50mph range. I got an offset rudder too.Comment

I got off on a tangent and thought you were building the shocker lol. The shocker is 2 inches wider and has flat.. or almost flat, ride pads where the genesis has a tru scalee hull design. You will be happy with the inline rudder. The genesis/ daytona handles it very well. And don't let people fool you. The offset had nothing to do with getting hope out of the geico. If it was, the mystic wouldn't hop. It does too. Its all about set up, cog and strut position and angle. However, you won't have to worry about any of that with the daytona. Easy boat to set up and get running really well. We were pushing them to mid 50s and turning a race course while doing so. Some laps it made it, some it didn't. At 40 there's hardly any issues at all. You will love the boat. I miss mine.. a lotComment

Lol.. yeah that hull was going to be my twin drive.... ill build another one at some point. It was a super fun and great looking sport boat.Comment

Oh checkmate.. just fyi, my trials thus far have shown that offset just helps the boat maintain speed while cornering. I run several boats inline just because I prefer the look and have no issues with any of those set ups. They are all sport boats. I'm sure in tru racing conditions and not pond bashing they would show some bad habits.Comment

That's cool, thanks again for the advice/info! I'm gonna wait a little while before i buy all the hardware, then i'll finalize exactly which motor to go with, probably a leopard, seems everyone is having good luck with them! Can't wait to get the hull in my hands so i can start painting it!Comment

buy the fightercat hardware that's the same as the genesis stuff. Its pretty good and is made to work with that hull. A 2200kv motor on 4s will run 50 plus using a m445 prop. Keep in mind that running 4s2p will keep temps in check and give you better run times. If you want to slow it down, prop down. You can look at profile pics to see how I set mine up. It may give you an idea on how not to do it. Lolwhite geico w/2200kv 3674 leopard 53.5mph 4s2p, geico w/ 1800kv outrunner 52mph on 4s2p, genesis w/2200kv castle 53.8 on 4s2p, impulse 31 w/2200kv castle, stock p1 and ul-1Comment

I think i am going to run the same set up as I am just waiting for Astec in the UK to get some CF Genesis hulls in stock and will be running 7 cell NIMH's as well. Let me know how the build goes and post some pics!!Comment
