teflon liners and flex shaft gaps

Hey Fellas. Ran into a little problem with my intruder s yesterday at the lake. Apparently there wasn't enough grease in the teflon and it got hot and kinda seized to the flex shaft. Got it out alright, but I was messing around with the teflon and flex out of the boat and noticed when i grease, the grease gets cut off the shaft as i run it through the teflon. shouldn't there be a little slop in the teflon and flex shaft so grease can distribute in the teflon? And should grease be put on the outside of the teflon before it is inserted into the brass tube? Do you guys squirt grease into the strut hole then push the grease cable through too? Just doesn't seem like enough grease once it get put into the tube.

You do not want the Teflon to spin in the brass stuffing tube, so NOT, don't lube the outside of the Teflon. When inserting the greased the shaft into the Teflon, rotate it back and forth while pushing it in...this can help to distribute the brease. This is one reason I don't like grease - I prefer a liquid lube. I also elininate the Teflon problems by not using it. A 1/4" OD brass tube is perfect for a 3/16" cable sans the Teflon.

Liquid as in gear oil. I use 70W synthetic gear oil, any kind will work as long as it has an EP (extreme pressure) additive in it. I have yet to wear out either a cable or a brass stuffing tube, and I race a lot. I haven't used Teflon in years except for the RTRs.

Any ideas on how to Fix the teflon tube inside the brass tube?
maybe a bit of epoxy just on one end ?
I dont think "not using it" is a solution as it would probably involve removing the entire tube and replacing it etc

I once used 3M contact spray adhessive. Spray a little on outside of teflon tube before sliding into clean brass stuffing tube. Besure inside of brass stuffing tube is degreased.

I've had great results with a combo of automatic transmission fluid and grease. I wipe down the flex cable with the transmission fliuid, then apply a light coat of marine grade grease. It's slick as all get out and thin enough for teflon lined stuffing tubes. I've used this with my FE boats and my gas boats for over four years and not one issue.

I know of one other well known racer and record holder that uses ATF and marine grease.

To stop the teflon liner turning in the brass tube wrap some ptfe plumbers tape around the teflon tube in 3 or 4 places along the tube it also stops water coming up between a loose fitting liner. Martin.
