    Minicat Samurai powerplant and prop

Anyone got an ideas on motor KV and props?

    I was originally thinking a 3660 2550KV leopard, then a 2380KV... 4S power.

Im thinking the 2550 might be to much. The 2380 I can only find in UK and Germany. I can find the 2120 also, but fear its not enough RPM.

I have a slew of plastic props I can try, but if someone has experience with this boat and can recommend a metal prop I might get one too.

What's the specs on that cat?
    What's the stock motor size?

Its about 9 1/2" wide and the hull is about 27" long.

Just says "540 size" 2000KV. I thought that KV seemed a little low?

What are your goals? You want all out saw style or a sport setup?

Some options are UL1 power with a grim 42x55
        Ammo 3650 with maybe a s215 or a x637
        Fegiao 540 11L with a x442

        * If it was my hull I would try ul1 power or just ul1 motor and a seaking 120 with grim 42x55... just me.

I bought one of the last ones from Jim. Love the boat. At the time I had an extra Seaking 90A ESC. I used it with the stock Tenshock 2 pole motor. ESC stays cool but the motor runs a tad on the warm side. Didn't want to ruin the motor so I put an Aquacraft MotleyCrew motor, (believe is 1800kv) and a x642 b/s prop. It is great, I believe it is at least 5 miles faster than stock and I can turn the boat around full throttle. Could not put a GPS in it due to size of the hull which is a pity. I think UL1 motor is also a great suggestion.

It would be a sport setup, was looking for a "hot" setup though.

            I have two 5000 mah 2S 40C batteries.

Ive been in the thought of more RPMs smaller props. But Im still a newb but wouldnt mind pushing the envelope a bit.

I forgot to add that I already have an ESC- Hobbywing 150A Opto with water cooling done on it.

What kind of RPM do you guys think would be good?

The stock one was around 30K RPM.

Ok Im going to heed the advice- I bought the UL1 motor. I see its a 6 pole motor, so I would guess Im going to have to change up settings on the ESC to accommodate.

Worst case it dont go good on first run I will try another motor :)

I have a UL1 with stock motor that I put a Seaking 120A in it , worked great, didn't have to change anything. Doesn't Hobbywing make Seaking? I love these motors, very efficient and runs cool. Hope you like the set up, enjoy!

I think it's a good choice and your setup should be very reliable as well. Boat should see high 40s to into the 50s if tuned well. I think you will be happy with it. I haven't seen those hulls run before so I don't know what to expect with that but I have had the ul1 motor in many MANY different hulls around the same lenght and has performed AMAZING in all of them. Personally I think it's one of if not the best RTR production motor produced. Timing with that motor should be around 10*

Yes hobbywing makes seaking and they are excellant esc's in planes, boating and in land vehicles. I have used them in all applications happily and will continue to use them.

Excellent. Should have her in the water next weekend pending motors arrival.

Going to give he a try with some various plastics to see speed and temps then order a metal SBP prop from Steve.

UL1 motor came in today. Magnets feel WAAAAYYYYY stronger than my 36x50 Leopard and possibly stronger than the 4074 Leopard. Insane.

Cant wait to put this in the water. Going to try and get her wet Saturday with some video.

I had good luck with the cc1512 in a ul1 and a bj 26 if the 2030 doesn't work out for you more mass means bigger prop

Got the motor installed, flex greased and installed, ESC installed and everything plumbed up.

The HK turnigy batts with the 5.5mm bullets dont mesh to good with the Castle 5.5's I have- they are loose. If fact it seems the turnigy male is longer than the castle. So I need to switch the battery ends out.

Need to get the battery mounts epoxied in and wires straightened out.

She sounded like a beast. Rather excited!

Think a mean 440/3 would work on this cat?

                              I have 40 x 1.4 and 45x 1.4 carbon props. I dont have a 42mm prop...

                              Going to change that though.
