What electrical set up for a cat

Going to start a 1.3 meter cat build in a few weeks and in the mean time i need to decide on what set up i want, now should i go single or twin brushless, now i am not looking to spend mega money so the twin set up is just a look into the possible side,

Can you ppl recomend a good set up for speed as this is what i am looking for please

You will have to give us more to go on here. Have you built an FE boat before? If so what kind? What speeds are you looking for - 60, 80, 100 mph? The faster you go the more it costs. What kind of run time do you want? How much are you willing to spend (mega money?!?)? What kind of water will you be running on - big lake, small pond, ocean - what? You have given us nothing useful to go on, we can't be expected to guess what you want to do. Tell us your goals for the build and we can be of more help.

Hi i am building a 1.1 meter maxi cat i will be looking for speeds between 60 - 70 mph really nothing more really as it will me on a small lake / pond o it is fresh water will only me in calm water as well, as for run time something between 10 and 15 minutes i think will be fine for that, as for money i will spend what it needs to get what i have explained, hope this will help ppl out a little more, some ppl have put tin motors in there i would be happy with a single if possible

I am not familiar with the Maxi Cat, who makes it and where would you buy it? Assuming it is the typical P1 offshore design, you will want to run 10S power - a single motor will work fine. Speeds in the 60s are not difficult with this kind of power, but ten minutes of full throttle running probably isn't in the cards.

You say that you will run in a "pond" - how big is the pond? A 60 mph cat needs at least 500 feet of pond length to be any fun, more is better.

You did not answer the question - "Have you built an FE boat before?" This is not a project for a beginner, and from your questions and responses it sounds like you do not have much FE experience. I strongly suggest that you build several less ambitious projects before you start on a top-tier boat worth over $1000.

10-15 minute runtimes arent going to happen. Any setup powerful enough to get that boat going well will last 4-6 minutes max. Dont know your experience either, but based on your runtime wish, i would venture that you are fairly new to FE boats. To get that boat going in that range you will need a Castle 2028 or a Neu 2215 minimum on 10s. If you know how to build one and have a bit of experience or want to learn more here on OSE, you may want to consider a twin Castle 1717 setup on 6s. 1717's can be bought used for $100-ish, and you wont have to spend huge $$ on HV ESC's.

no i have never built one but i can assure you being in the carpenter or a joiner over here in the UK i would say i am qualified to build a 1meter boat From balsa and ply.I am not one to just knock one up with out looking into it, i have done my research and seen plenty cats being built inc mono's. Just take my time ask questions and i will be fine

I wouldnt use balsa, use birch and lite-ply for your build will be strong and light.
Also the maxi cat needs altering especially if run run twins.but to be honest there not the best plans for a cat.
I helped a mate build 1 of these at 32" its not a great, stable performer
If you want any advice if you do decide to got ahead pm me

@ fluid the maxi cat was design for gas originally for 72" , theres loads of plans for this hull on the net for it.

Don't be so defensive, you have missed my point entirely. You ask for help yet don't want to hear it. I have no doubt you can build the hull. The problem is what goes into it...most new-to-FE guys fail even with fiberglass hulls - I have seen it far too many times. They make mistakes which cost a lot of money and get discouraged. Once again, I strongly suggest that you build several less ambitious projects before you start on a top-tier boat worth over $1000. Start with a smaller 4S boat and learn the basics first. You'll thank me later.
